We can. A lot of things have to happen though.

1. We have to ensure that the offense is truly tailored to fit the talent we have. Coach Kingsbury said last night in the post-award press conference that there were several times in practice that they stopped the plays early due to apparent sacks because they didn't think that Manziel would be able to JFF his way out of them. They've now got 10 months to tailor it not only to him, but to the eligible backs, the new receivers, and that beast of a tight end that we have coming in.

2. Depends on how quickly the stud recruits on defense get into place. If we end up having a dominant defense, it won't matter if Manziel's numbers go down...and it may force his numbers to go down due to short fields.

3. Kicking game. Bertolet has GOT to improve drastically from inside 40 yards. He already cost us one game this year and almost cost us 3 more.

You can have all the talent in the world on defense, but you need an incredible scheme and coaches. You aren't elite in that aspect yet.

Not saying your D is bad like Clemons, but they always have elite defensive players and it doesn't help them at all.

Why do you people think the OT's are coming back? That would be the dumbest fricking thing ever for them. Takes one fat arse SEC DL rolling over your knee to end your career and chance at MILLIONS. I don't care if they have family money. They could make their own millions.

Also, losing Swope will hurt more than people think. JM relied on him in basically every clutch play. Dude is money. That kind of chemistry can't just be replicated with a new WR.

Which will still be elite next year.

The 2 deep of:

LT - Matthews/Stuckey
LG - Harrison/Klinke
C - Matthews/Compton
RG - Ifedi/Wilson
RT - Ogbuehi/Cheek

Would start for most schools

Mike Evans on 3rd and 19 against Ole Miss?

Mike Evans dragging Alabama defenders 3-4 yards after the catch for 1st downs?

Malcome Kennedy against Alabama?

We're losing Mike Evans? News to me. I'm pretty sure he's a RS-FR like Manziel is.

You don't think Swope is your 4th best offensive player? That dude was so clutch for you this year and JM relied on him a ton.

Even when the line broke down Johnny Football made something happen out of nothing.

Evans had over 1,000 receiving yards. Only the 3rd A&M receiver to ever do so in a season. Only 2 less TD catches than Swope.

They'll compete. Won't win but they'll be in the running late again.

So not both of your top 10 NFL draft pick worthy tackles?

LOL, just the most coveted position on offense other than a QB

This will happen every year with Sumlin's offense with a new guy each time.

Get used to it.

I think A&M has a good a shot as anyone.

Our east schedule isn't USC, UF or UGA (its Vandy, Mizzou), we get Bama at Kyle, & have an open week before LSU.

A lot will depend on what JRs stay and how quickly our stacked recruiting class can contribute.

Matthews is not. Nice try.

He is projected as the 2nd OT taken on most major draft sites. Why would he not go pro? His stock will not get higher next season and could actually get worse if he is injured or struggles at LT.

I agree. I don't think many juniors will leave and if Manziel plays to the level he did this year they will contend for the west, maybe even a national championship

What leads all aggies to believe Matthews isn't leaving? Has he come out and said he is staying or what?

I agree.

But it bothers me that dumb A&M fans think losing 1 or 2 tackles and Swope won't hurt you at all.

Add in the usual sophomore slump and the insane expectations for JM and the SEC defenses knowing what they're getting ahead of time.

A&M will be very good, but lets be realistic. They aren't returning 22 starters or something.

People need to realize that aTm is a one man gimmick offense and beyond that they are mediocre. Auburn was able to do that with Cam Newton but they also had Nick Fairly and company on the defensive side of the ball. Dont get me wrong JFF is very talented but aTm is one good twisted knee or concussion from mediocrity.

I actually look for JFF to have a drop in effectiveness next year because everyone knows what to look for now. UF and LSU had success in stopping JFF. Bama wont make same mistake twice but has to got to go to Kyle this yr. Ark and Aub have new coaches who are unknown potential. Also Aub will never forget that drubbing last year and will eventually exact revenge...

LSU returns nearly everyone on offense. The secondary will be experienced. The DL is the biggest unknown for us. aTm has to come to Death Valley...

That could actually be a plus. Sumlin is recruiting at unprecedented heights for A&M. The Aggies are getting a major talent upgrade.

I don't expect the Aggies will be anything but a tough out for anyone.
