I was reading earlier that the SEC is considering adding Duke and North Carolina to strengthen the SEC as a whole. I see a lot of football fans rejecting this understandably but from a standpoint of what it adds to the conference as a whole isn't this a plus? Tv market, and basketball upgrades to name a few. What's the general opinion?

I am so sick of conference expansion. I really don't want another off season of this.

Its the best move possible.

It maximizes marketshare of a growing state of +13,000,000 people.

Who cares if athe B1g has a maryland? Or a UVA?

why? expanding is the only way to keep the conference strong in today's college sports world. the days of multiple power conferences that played to regions are done. now its all about television markets and revenue. there will be a couple of super conferences in the next couple years that are nation wide

We wont add 2 teams from the same state... Otherwise Clemson and Florida State would have already been in.

Meh, I'd say they're comparable and overall Duke and UNC would instantly help the SEC basketball ratings for the rest of the SEC. The SEC as a basketball conference is currently a joke.

The whole new tv market thing is way overdone.

The game is national now, top10 Georgia vs top 10 Clemson would be a megaton better than the alternative

Top 10 UGA vs NCState [unranked].

I do not know who you are hearing that from. Everything I have been hearing is that a deal is almost done for VaTech and NC State which makes a great deal more sense. VT brings the DC market and NCSbrings the Charlotte market.

One story I saw today had this happening right after the BCS NC.

If NCSU joins the SEC, they won't stay unranked for long. The best players in NC are currently bolting the state for SEC schools. Those players would be inclined to stay in-state with the addition of NCSU to the SEC. NCSU also recruits Florida pretty well, so they could field a competitive team in the SEC if they could keep the talent in state.

UNC and Duke would be great additions. Additions that won't make the gauntlet any tougher.

My point all along has been that there's a point where expansion hurts. Who cares if you have more money if your path to winning a championship gets even tougher?

Because when it comes to expansion, money trumps championships. Plus with a playoff, the winner of the SEC will get in so it wont be as important to go undefeated.

Ok.

I respect your opinion.
But why does FSU and Miami still compete effectively against UF?

Put a different way,
is the University of South Carolina besting Clemson recruiting because they are winning or because the SEC?

The best adds ive seen would be:
Va Tech
UNC
Duke(non-football)
Wake forest(non-football)

Keep it at 16 and add a whole lot to non-football sports

Duke and WF take their football programs to fcs where they belong

I started a non SEC school thread congratulating a veteran honored last night that was axed. Now this thread with two puss ACC members is still here. Go figure. Nice job mods.
