No, you would have certainly caught some. I just don't drop shot much in the winter. Jigs and Spotsticker stuff along with spoons and jerkbaits. But the drop shot is effective.

I get all levels but I would have to say the majority of my customers are more skilled. I don't have to baby sit much. Today, my client is very skilled. It will be like two guys going fishing. Cept one of us is getting paid.

Higher skilled clients have a different expectations though. It's never easy.

I fish Oconee a lot, and although I use many rigs, a Carolina rig is one of my staples.

Now I normally would use a 7ft3 inch heavy action rod with 15lb fouro as mainline, but last fall I started using 40lb power pro super slick and a long crankbait rod for bend due to the non stretch of the braid.

I like this braid set up for the long hooksets the carolina rig requires. Do you think that medium action crankbait rod is the way to go, or should I use a faster rod with the braid?

If its a fiberglass rod, I would say dont use it. I would think a medium or even medium heavy would be fine as long as you back down on the drag a little.

Since I mostly fish Lanier and the water is so clear, I dont use braid anymore. I used it when I was fishing the Tour for a while but just never really felt comfortable with it unless I was punching mats.

I really think your 15 pound fluro was a great set up. I used 15 pound flouro and a 7 foot medium heavy rod. It was enough. I never liked the longer rods as them wore me out fishing them all day.

Hell, when I fish jigheads here, I use a 6-0 medium action St croix avid. Thing is like holding a straw. No weight at all

Sorry I cant be much more help but That braid thing is different for each user. Depends on your hook set too. If you dont rake them, you are usually Ok. If your a mad man, you need to back down on the action of the rod. Something must give. You dont want it to be the fish.

Its a graphite rod.

One of those Shimano Sellus heavy cranking rods.

I was just experimenting to try to help with the long hooksets.
