Serious question about Tennessee

I had always respected Tennessee as a football program and university but with the last few years being very subpar and the recent news of Gundy staying at OKST instead of going with Tenn, leads me to a question: is Tennessee still a prestigous football program? Why is it not drawing major attention from football coaches nationwide?

no, it's not.
too hard of a job, too high of expectations, no built in advantages.
what made us great in the past was a rabid fan base, and a lot of money. tv-deals and revenue sharing, have leveled the playing field and made us irrelevant.

Because it's going to take a while to rebuild and coaches prefer immediate success.

some coaches thought about it, then looked at next year's schedule.
at Oregon (BCS #4 currently)
at Florida #3
at Alabama #2
Georgia #5
South Carolina #10
etc
it doesn't get any more meat-grinder of a schedule than that. Gruden isn't coming but I see even Gruden losing 4 of those games.

They're program is really down right now and it'll take a lot of work to get them back where expectations are.
A lot of people passed on the Bama job too, that's when I knew how bad we TRULY were.
