So I am starting to believe that JJ is going to screw this one up incredibly bad. Someone along the lines of Gus Malzahn or Shawn Watson bad. So assuming they do something incredibly stupid, what are some up and comers to look out for in 2017? These are guys that are starting to be on the up but not quite SEC quality hires yet (and Petrino should always make this list)

Bobby Petrino (he will do well at S Miss)
Dave Dorean (Good record at NIU maybe NC State)
Joe Whitt Jr (Is a star in the making)
Steve Sarkisan (Seems to be doing well at UW)
Kyle Flood (Seems to be doing well 1st yr Rutgers)
Gary Anderson (Slowly turning around Utah St)
Manny Diaz (UT DC highly thought of)

Gussy malzahn will lead us to the promised land with his highschool offense

Remember when we lined Ziemba up as a wide receiver. Gah I love that play

Not taking up for JJ, but what if Malzahn or Smart is the best we can do? I mean, if Gary P turns us down, there's not enough backing to hire Petrino, who do you (JJ) hire? You can't force someone to come and there is a limited number of football coaches on the market (coupled with other jobs open). Pump the brakes and let this play out.

You pull a John McCain, go Maverick and hire Petrino

I love the logic of, it worked in high school vs unathletic kids with subpar coaching, it should work again!

I agree, but I tell you I will be fricking going off, if they hire Gus.

If no one will pony up the money to hire him, you can't.

so it wouldn't be the best we could do, it would be the safe antiseptic route?

It would mean we missed on our top targets. Which is looking like a possiablity.

Petrino is going to take a huge paycut (enough for TV money to afford) and after he starts winning people forget. We do have the donors to hire him so it is a moot point.

and by miss you mean not take a swing at bobby?

if morality first football second crowd can't see past what our other options are and the situation plays out like you said, then we can beat our drum for how great it is to be an auburn man and then hope all off season we get an invite to the music city bowl.

Don't care. The fact is some of our money people don't want him. Right or wrong, it's just fact. If they won't pay, the AD's office can't hire him.

please tell me you don't actually think petrino is cost prohibitive right now becuase some booster not pitching in.

hell they could shake the money needed to sign him out of a couch in the atheletic department.

I can't believe I'm the one pumping the brakes on this, but its too soon for the meltdown. Check back in with this later especially if TN and Arky make homerun hires before us.......

CALM DOWN! The point of my post is JJ might be hard after Petrino, Gary P, etc. We will still need a plan B if those guy's turn us down. There's no need to freak out yet.

who is upset?

Just don't say we can't afford petrino if some booster doesn't chip in.

I think it's pretty obvious they're interviewing to look thorough. Not for a plan B, unless auburn really is run by pussies who won't hire petrino because he's not "an auburn man"
