This is probably dumb, but whatever.

If a player is from GA, and he's smart enough to stay on HOPE, can he decline a football scholarship, play as a walk-on, and give his spot to another kid which would therefore create more depth?

Or does it not work like that?

I'm sure he could, but with a "scholly" you get way more than hope gives you. It pays for more than just school and books. It's not a "living" by any means, but you do get something more out of it.

Most of the smaller schools in Georgia do this as a way around scholarship numbers. They'll give a kid preferred walk-on status while the state pays for his education.

I know our Baseball team tries to take advantage of it (baseball gets totally screwed because of title IX)...honestly a little bit demographic in FB...we aren't gonna find many hope scholars out there that play @ an SEC level...just the reality of it.

All these comments make sense. I guess there are certain perks that come with having a football scholarship over the HOPE.

Still, it would be nice if those few SEC caliber kids who either a) came from money or b) can use the HOPE would pass their slot on to another guy. Wishful thinking, I suppose.

RE: Title IX comments. When I was in school there were like 35 chicks on the Equestrian team. I don't know jack about horse-related sports, but that number seems rather high, especially considering nobody goes to those events.

It sucks...I believe Baseball gets 9 scholarshpis while girls softball gets 12 maybe 15 and baseball MAKES money! They usually have to divide the scholarships up in BB by about 20 players.

I'm ok with title IX when there is a Female Sport opposite of a Male sport. But, personally, I think that you shouldn't have to offset things like football. That's 85 scholly's that you have to create a sport for. That's just stupid IMO. Having Mens and Womens Bball, etc. is fine. But why should they have to give up schollys just because there isn't a female variant of the sport? That's my only issue with it.

A vast majority of the equestrian girls see little to no riding time in actual competition. Equestrian is basically there as a counter-balance to help even up numbers with Football team for Title IX purposes.

Yeah, I knew a chick on the Equestrian team that knew next to nothing about it.

Pretty retarded.

I didn't realize baseball got hosed like that.
