Will the SECCG cost teams a chance at the national semis in 2014?

It seem like the championship game will cost teams a chance at playing in the national championship semis. Look at this year, Georgia loses and Florida jumps into the semis. This format sucks because the Big 12 doesn't have a championship game. Thoughts?

Can't say it doesn't chap my arse knowing that we played an extra game against a great team, lost, and are going to be penalized for it.

Can't imagine it's going to feel much better with a playoff

If teams win their games it won't be an issue. Only losers have to worry about it having a negative effect on their playoff chances.

I'm pretty sure the committees are going to keep multiple teams from the same conference out anyway.

I'd hope the selection committee would recognize that and select the top 4 teams regardless

That was the concern when the game first started in the 90s. Seems to have worked out.

And if a deserving SEC team gets left out of the playoff because the committee doesn't want two SEC teams in the playoff, they will be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.

Everyone wanted a playoff and when you have a playoff the best team doesn't always win. Look at the NFL. It's a one game playoff and someone has to be eliminated.

The answer is yes. The move to a playoff like format will eventually render the SEC championship game not only meaningless, but detrimental. It actually began last year with Bama's easy slide into the BcS championship game. Teams will begin to realize that and demand changes.

This. I hate the idea of a selection committee. Should be the top 4 teams from the end of season BCS poll playing for it. Period.

Make no mistake, the rest of the country and 90% of football media hates us. We will be fighting to climb a waterfall when it comes fairness in making the playoffs.

First of all, the Big 12's lack of a title game might lose them a spot one year.

Secondly, the point is to win a championship. Georgia had their shot in one game elimination.

In the future the SECCG is basically first round of the playoffs.
