Who are the coaches at Auburn you would be satisfied with knowing we could have had Petrino.

I will go first:

Patterson
Peterson
Bob Stoops

Petrino is my one but Stoops is the only one Id br okay with. We need intensity and a clean progran and Petrino runs one of the tightest ships in the country. Patterson has had widespread drug use so no

yea all these off field issues I keep hearing about patterson, granted it's just stiff I've read on the internet, makes me want him a little less. I'm sure he would be a good coach, but I just feel like we need someone to come in and kick some butt now

Blaming Patterson for players wanting to be complete idiots and get involved in a drug ring is laughable. You make it sound like Patterson knew about and encouraged it by letting it go on.

Just like Chizik and the Trailer Park 4, there's nothing you can do about kids losing there minds and acting like complete morons in a situation like that. Completely unfair to somehow think that's Patterson's fault.

Patterson is one of the top 5 coaches in college football and has run clean programs. I'd gladly take him, Petrino or Petersen. Nothing's changed.

The only bad things I've said towards Patterson is that I have doubts about him winning in the SEC, and he looks like Kige.

ETA: I don't know why a quarter of my post was italicized.

currently makes around 4.9 million. Personally, I think we would have to pay him upwards of 6 million for him to consider it. That would take SERIOUS commitment from the AU power brokers. Would probably mean giving him full control too.

Patterson

Currently makes around 3.5 million. For him to leave TCU, where he has been for 13 years, I would guess we would have to offer him in the neighborhood of 4.5 million. Again, that is a really serious commitment.

Patterson

I think he makes around 1.5 to 2 million range. Not a lot by most top coaches standards, but the X factor is he sick child. You can't really put a monetary value on that. I don't see him going anywhere, anytime soon.

Petrino

AU could have had hired him the moment the IB was over. IMO he is a fall back plan. There is no rush to give him the job, because both parties know that if he wants back in the SEC, AU is his only option at this point. He will wait on AU and AU will wait until they strike out on all their other top candidates. Money, won't be an issue. He will be happy to have a job at a big time school.

Not sure what he makes. I do know that FSU is experiencing financial issues, so he may be weighing his options. He and his family have plenty of ties to AU, so that alone makes the job attractive to him.

Poor pitiful pathetic Patrino. Everybody assumes he's waiting for Auburn, and that Auburn is taking its time vetting any- and everybody else instead of making the gutsy hire. I could see him saying, You had your shot Auburn, but too late! I'm going to Berkley!

And we end up with Skip Holtz.

Go back and read it again..... Petrino is in no position to tell anyone "They had their shot." IF Petrino wants back into the SEC, the biggest baddest, toughest conference in the land, AU is his ONLY option at this point. UT isn't going to hire him and Arky is not going to take him back. Hell UK even said no thanks. AU is in no hurry to just give him the job. If he wants it, he will have to wait and see if AU strikes out on their other top choices. That's the price you pay when you leave a dumpster fire at every HC'ing gig you have ever had. He is a high risk high reward candidate.

Considering he can't afford to leave another program a trainwreck and get another job, I feel like the risk is not as high as some would think. I refuse to believe a guy as smart as he is doesn't see that his next SEC job is his last

Which is exactly why he isn't going to tell AU they had their chance, but he is going to Berkley. He will wait, because he knows AU is his last and only hope
