Cotton Bowl chairman w/eye opening info. on selection process

Cotton Bowl chairman, Tommy Bain, Aggie and chairman of the Cotton Bowl, joined Texas Radio on Friday. Bain discussed the chance of A&M playing in Arlington, addressed rumors of Texas not wanting to play the Aggies and more.
When it comes to team selections, the SEC will put pressure on the Cotton Bowl to take the loser of the SEC championship game in order to protect that team, and that is normal for them to do, but not binding on the Cotton Bowl Committee.
If Oklahoma is not invited to a BCS bowl, the Cotton Bowl would take the Sooners. If OU doesn’t come to the Cotton, then Texas would be the choice.
The conversations of Texas not wanting to play A&M are private. There is a lot of bad blood towards A&M right now. Some members of the Big 12 Conference prefer not to play the Aggies. While this may play a role, it will not decide the final outcome.
The Capital One bowl would love to have A&M and a possible Heisman winner just as much as the Cotton Bowl would, and the Capital One might beat us to the Aggies this year.

I'm not sure the Cap One wants Nebraska back, especially after that shellacking tonight. Plus, Northwestern and A&M played last year. I don't know how much this affects things, especially with a potential Heisman winner in the mix.

Has a team ever "turned down" a bowl invite?
I know most SEC fans think cap 1 is prestigious but once cotton is in playoff rotation it wont mean shite. Besides, who the frick cares about nebraska, northwestern or the b10?

The Capital 1 Bowl is prestigious to the Capital 1 Bowl. Once you go, you'll realize what a crappy bowl it is. It's in a dump of a stadium in a dump of a town, seriously. I'd personally rather see LSU in the Chick-fil-A than the Cap 1. Sure, the payout is bigger, but wtf cares once the money from all the bowls are split up evenly. Plus, it's competing with other bowls in the same time slots. I once thought it was a prestigious non BCS bowl, but I learned my lesson...so will you.

Sorry to disappoint, but I thought it interesting that Longhorn officials are so spiteful and bitter towards A&M that they would object to playing the Aggies in the Cotton Bowl—afraid more likely.
This interview by the chairman of the Cotton Bowl also seems to indicate that LSU or Georgia is most likely to play in the Cotton Bowl. But as a Bama fan looking towards the BCS CG, I am surprised you were interested enough to even read this thread.
Come to think of it, Johnny Manziel is lucky he got a chance to play in the SEC this year. I wonder if he would be considered a leading candidate for the Heisman if he had played his freshman year in the Big 12, instead of the mighty SEC. Playing in the Big 12 this year, he would never have beaten Bama.
