Is it usually at this time? I'm at work and I'm going to miss the game.

Always this time, but should be a night game.

i was wondering the same thing... super weird time of day. not like it determines the NC game again or anything like that....
oh wait, maybe it's because America is tired of the SEC. yeah, prob that.
*edit*
no way it's always a 3:00 game! really?? /googling

Or it's because of TV contracts.

Or not that at all.

I have to work as well. I'll miss the whole thing.

Um, yes. It's been like this for the last few years. The last SEC Championship game in primetime was either in '05 or '06. Every SEC Championship Game since that time has started at 3:00 or 4:00 PM.

well, for sure. but i'm shocked the contract for the SECCG wasn't powerful enough to win a prime-time slot.

it was more tongue in cheek. i'm aware that it's all in contracts. what i don't know is how the parameters of the contracts are decided and signed on.

definitely needs to be prime time. Let the BIG have this slot

I actually prefer the afternoon games. It's unbearable waiting until 7:00 or 8:00 for the game to start. And the highest viewership for college football games is in the mid-afternoon slot anyway. Most people are not staying at home and watching college football on Saturday nights.

First off, it's indoors.
Secondly, it's dark in Atlanta by halftime.
Finally, it doesn't matter what time it's played. Way more eyeballs tuned into the SECCG than any other game today.
Big Ten champ game is in prime time. Nobody will watch it.

Because they knew that if they stretched the pre game another few hours, then there would definitely be deaths among the tailgaters. The SECCG is a Dothraki wedding- one without a few deaths is considered a very dull affair.

FYI it was not always at 4pET. When UGA won in 2002 and 2005 the kick off was at 6pET.

I distinctly remember the 1999 game being a 7pm kick because I left the wife and kids at a christmas parade in NYC to cab it over to legends and watch it. So its not always at this time. I think a few around 05-06 were prime time as well.

Do people realize that the higher priority conference championship has almost always been played in the 3:00, 4:00 slot? I remember many of the SEC championship games being played in primetime during the '90s with the Big 12 Championship Game being played in the afternoon and the Big 12 usually had the more anticipated conference championship game during that time. For example, Kansas State vs. Texas A&M was a bigger game than Tennessee vs. Mississippi State in 1998 and A&M vs. K-State got the afternoon time slot. It's actually a compliment to play the game earlier than in primetime.
