Why doesn't the Bama Nickel and Dime use CBs over Safeties

Against LSU and A&M, Bama's secondary was exposed. Vinnie does a great job in run support, but he gets taken advantage of in coverage. Nick Perry has also demonstrated weakness in coverage.

It seems to me that Fulton should take the boundary corner and Milliner should play the star in the Nickel. I believe Bama needs Geno Smith, Brad Sylve or Landon Collins to play the money in the dime.

Bama has to get more speed and athleticism on the field or Murray will eat their lunch. Murray leads the nation in passing efficiency, and I am sure GA is fapping to what Mett and Manziel did against Bama's back end.

Bama's lack of a pass rush exposes the secondary to longer developing routes where DBs have responsibility for more than one receiver. Bama has been getting abused with routes that require the safety to defend the receiver at the boundary behind the CB.

Right now, Fulton/Belue on the outside and Milliner at Star is probably our best bet. Lester/HaHa at Safety is obvious. Perry has shown flashes, and Vinnie is a good blitzer. Neither are gonna be good though when they have to defend from the Money position. Geno Smith and Collins don't have the experience right now though. Had Jarrick Williams not gotten hurt this may not even be a conversation right now. He was all set to play Money and I've always underrated Williams. You don't know what you have until it is gone.

Geno is the STAR for now, though he's had 2 creampuff games so far and no real test.

Sunseri has been moved back to Money, which was expected to be Jarrick Williams' position before he was injured right before the season. Susneri had showed promise at STAR leading up to this year, but he's not quick enough to keep up with slot WRs like a slot CB could.

I was really excited about Dixon. Elite size, was gonna be a beast Star this year, and had a cool name.

If he could quit just like he did, I doubt he was gonna be able to dig himself out of the depth hole he was in. He fell behind freshman because he couldn't grasp 2 positions.

If Geno, a freshman, catches on faster than you, what happens to you, a Junior? Phelon Jones happens to you...

Is that because of Fulton's turf toe? I thought Fulton played well in the A&M game, although he got off to a shaky start (as did the whole team).

They've been cross-training him for it all year, but Fulton's injury pushed it through to happening. He's played STAR and MONEY, but again, against WCU and Auburn.

I think they'll roll with him early, but will be oh so quick to pull him if something goes wrong. Fulton being healthier won't force Geno into as much playing time. Fulton caught a bit of my ire against A&M, he got drug by Mike Evans early. But he bounced back in the second half with those breakups.

They want Geno at STAR, but Milliner will probably end up the way to go there Saturday with Smith moving back to Money. After all, they need all the cover men they can get on the field against a passing team. UGA doesn't have a dominant WR left, so it will be easier to put Fulton on one and move Milliner in.

Can Collins not grasp the assignments? He is as fast as any of Bama's corners and should be a much better tackler. He has unbelievable closing speed, and should be a boss on the coverages that require him to play over the top of the receiver on the boundary with a CB in a trail position.

I'm not sure on what's going on with Collins, other than he's on most/all special teams units.

Barron only played ST his first year and he turned out just fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

...and gave up a TD against Utah.

People don't forget.

They sure don't. I wonder how well Julio is progressing towards his degree. His mom really wanted him to get it.

Heard Dixon was struggling learning the defense. Either it was too complex for him or he was just too lazy to learn the concept of it.

Fulton played corner and Milliner played Star against A&M. If Fulton is healthy enough, I would think this will be the plan versus UGA. If Fulton isn't healthy enough to go, then it'll likely be Geno at Star. I don't expect to see Vinnie at Star, but we'll likely see him or Perry at Money in dime. I'm much more comfortable with 3 CBs and 3 safeties than 2 CBs and 4 safeties.

I assume Eddie Williams is still at receiver and redshirting, is that correct?

He is redshirting but he's been working with the Safeties since fall camp
