Up 24-0 in front of 101,000 of your own fans, your Heisman trophy winning running back breaks a long run and is on his way into the redzone for a chance to blow your in-state rival out of the water, end their perfect season and end their national championship dreams...but....

Then up 24-7 and again inside the 10 with a chance to increase the lead right before halftime...

Auburn receives the second half kickoff, and on second play from scrimmage...

The rest, is history

On this day 10 years ago Petrino, Chiz, and Tubs were 10.5 point underdogs in Tuscaloosa. Auburn uses their 3rd string white boy running back to upset the Tide.

Winning the National Championship game came from that mess. And here we are again two years later and another national championship in sight... You gotta take the bad with the good!

Coach Fran was preoccupied that week, to say the least.

It is amazing to look at that and realize that only two short years later you are the worst team in the SEC. Also, we won a NC the next year and are in the hunt again this year.

It just doesn't pay to cheat. I think the worst is still ahead for Auburn.

It's all good. We went on to win the national championship the very next year while, at the same time, your program went to complete and total shite. Now we're sitting pretty with a chance to repeat as national champions while you're sitting ugly with a 3-8 record and a pending NCAA investigation into your program.

In the grand scheme of things, I will take that loss with open arms as it probably did more to help our program than anything else.

1) I am not an Auburn fan
2) that is all well and good, but how amazing would if feel to not only win three out of the last four NC's, but also be the one to eliminate your rival from winning the one you didn't

You had them dead in the water and on the way to a blowout and choked

If only Bama could have begged for a rematch, they would have been 1-1 vs Aubie that year too

It happens to the best of us. No point in dwelling on what's past. I'm happy where both teams are at the present.
