They have been a non-factor in the SEC for a decade now after some pretty decent runs in both the 1980s and 1990s.

If I'm not mistaken, unlike other conference schools they must recruit outside of their borders very hard.

I'm not sure if the hire of Jesus Christ himself next year would bring any impact or signifcant improvement for the next few seasons.

Dooley appears to be on the cusp, the question will be if Tennessee can be patient and give the man the one more year he needs or if they decide to burn the program to the ground and start over for the 4th time in the past 6 years.

The first year will be tough, but you'll know by year two the direction of your program.

True, Chizik won a Natty in his second year and no one was laughing at mister 5-19 after that.

It is extremely dependent on who Tennessee hires.

If Tennessee hires a quality coach, it shouldn't be more than a few years.

If Tennessee hires a bad coach, it will depend on who is hired next.

If Tennessee retains Dooley (which won't happen), Tennessee won't be back for a very long time.

This UT team has a shot at immortality...they could be the first UT team to lose 8 games in a season. Pretty sure UT is the only team in FBS that has never lost more than 7...

Why because Dooley has lost to five ranked teams this season? Dooley has really only lost one game this season he probably should not have and that took an overtime, he is doing a hell of a job. Tennessee needs to reevaluate where they stand and what their potential is as a program, Syracuse and Navy use to be dominate programs, that just isn't so in today's world.

Btw I wouldn't call being in 2 SECCG in the last decade being a "non-factor"

You're correct with 04. 07, well, you still got blown out by your rivals.
