Is There More to John L. Than Meets the Eye?

I would say no, there is likely less. However, it is interesting how much the players love him. It seems to go beyond him just being a "players coach." Numerous players have given him all the credit, say he is doing great under the circumstances, and even Hocker has now said he hopes he is able to stay. What is the deal? It seems like he is clueless and doing nothing of note on the sideline. FWIW, I do NOT want him to stay. This just seems interesting.

It's irrelevant. I don't give a shite what a player thinks of a coach. It's not the players' jobs to judge their coaches. It goes the other way.
JLS is toast. Gone. No chance in hell or this program might as well pack up and go home. If there are players who ACTUALLY think he's got a chance to stay, they better wrap their heads around some reality.

These are my thoughts as well. It is just puzzling how any of them can respect him for coaching ability. Personally I think he is nothing but a crazy old fart who needs to blow out of Arkansas and never return.

I bet they just like how easy it must be to practice under him as opposed to a real coach.

No they can't, but they can also not go out of their way to suck him off. They seem to really think he does a good job, but I can't figure out how/why.

Apparently we are supposed to have an announcement on the HC situation once we lose our next game. "Long is waiting to find out bowl eligibility before the announcement"

I hope you're right, makes sense. I never want the hogs to lose but a bowl isn't gonna do much for is IMO. Although beating LSU would be fun.

I guess we could announce that JLS won't be back and that we are officially searching for a HC, but if our next HC is a current HC, I think the real announcement will come after HIS last regular season game and not after our next game.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that the players like him, nor do I think it's somehow indicative of a positive coaching ability on his part.
I think this happens with any organization. The people in the organization usually like the people they work with, even if they aren't competent. Everyone has that co-worker who's incompetent but is just a nice guy. Change, even good change, brings about a lot of uncertainty and stress, and upheaval.
Also, I don't think the players want to shift blame onto the coaches. The players are a MAJOR component of the product that is being put on the field, and they take ownership of it. From the earliest levels of football, they've been taught to buy into a system and own your mistakes/successes. So I think the players feel like any problems are their fault and do not want to put the onus on the coaches.
