How much of Tide's success this year is due to the player's character?

I have been extremely impressed by the leadership on this year's team. It is not the most athletically gifted team in Tide history, but it is coming close to performing at its optimal level.
Barrett Jones embodies leadership and character, and he his making our line calls at center. He is a 5th year senior, 3 time All American, and Outland Trophy winner. He also suggested to Nuss that they run a screen pass on the last drive against LSU.
Robert Lester is also a 5th year senior. He is making the calls in our secondary. Our inexperienced secondary has played much better than expected thru 9 games. Lester has taken responsibility over the unit and has it performing well.
Nico Johnson and C.J. Mosely are upperclassmen LBs who are performing at a high level. They are making defensive calls and are keeping the rest of the defensive front 7 functioning more efficiently than last year's record setting Tide run defense.
A.J. McCarron is a redshirt junior QB who is calling audibles at the line of scrimmage, and leading Bama on winning TD drives in the two minute offense.
All these guys are quality people along with being outstanding football players. Bama has had better, more talented players but I am not sure that Bama has had better leaders. I do not think you can overstate the importance of the character of these young men in assessing the accomplishments of this year's team. You don't come back in Tiger Stadium in the last two minutes without character and leadership.
Georgia has more NFL talent on their defense, Bama has more character and leadership on their team. Only one team is unbeaten in the SEC.

So you're saying it's really going to suck when Georgia beats y'all.
Otherwise, good post.

Actually, I think we are kinda missing that alpha dog
on defense. Hightower and rolando were much more obvious as the defensive leaders.

I'm not sure how much it weighs on this team, but as a program, the fact that our players tend to stay out of any kind of big trouble is obviously huge. I think a team of good-talent, high-character guys could beat a high-talent, low-character team. Not that Bama players necessarily have "high" character

Don't you have a team board for this or something?

I think that having quality leaders makes it less likely that guys get in to trouble off the field. I also think that playing so many players in those early season games helped with team chemistry. The older guys were rooting for the younger guys to make plays. That is just so positive on so many levels.
If you listen to Bama's players talk to the media, it is astounding what good representatives they are for the U of A. Barrett Jones appears on CFB daily (ESPNU) every Monday on skype. He is a great ambassador for CFB and the U of A.

I bet it took more time to find and post that gif than it did to read the post. And besides, does the tl;dr meme speak to the op's ignorance or more towards your own?

You think Bama players lack character or you jelly because LSU has had issues in that area.

Big time. DePriest is the guy I thought would fill that role. He's good, but something is missing.

This is why SEC fans consider bama so arrogant: Another "LOOK AT ME! ME! ME! SEE HOW GREAT I AM" thread. Keep that BS on the bama boards as that is all they are good for.

Well, to be fair, McCarron did rise up and show a lot on the last drive against LSU.
Objectively, it's a shame for him he lacks the physical tools to be a good NFL qb. If he did, that drive would have pushed him to the top of the board.

Bama fan: Man I am just trying to figure out why we are so awesome and superior, do you think it's that our players leadership is as amazing as our our coach's god status?
I would like all of the fans of other schools in SEC to discuss this with me.
Seriously douche GTFO SEC rant w/ that, go blow each other in the privacy of the Bama board.
Bama fans

Don't know why they let in tamu. Worthless addition as far as $$$. Texas would have been a better addition. Would have loved FSU or Clemson for the east addition.
