First off, I was at the game last night and it was the best college football game I've ever been too and that's counting the game in T-town last year.

Now, one thing that struck me was how many receivers we had open. I know Mett made some good throws in tight coverage (the td pass to Landry), but we also had some guys leave the cornerbacks.

With that said, bama fans, would you say the secondary is the weak point of the defense? It seemed like state threw the ball down field with a little success, and we were able to do it last night. I think y'all miss Kirpatrick and Barron a lot. That would be my only worry going into the SEC championship against UGA.

3rd-and-Murray will be Bama's best friend.

Yes, BUT it wasn't overrated going in, LSU's offense just played their best game and finally didn't drop shite. Mett made some throws in tight coverage, and at times we left guys wide open, but every secondary does that in every game, it's a simple matter of the QB taking advantage of it. Great game by LSU.

I actually believe the pass rush is a much bigger weakness than the secondary. Alabama has problems generating a consistent pass rush without blitzing. They really need to land that Nkemdiche (sp?) kid or somebody else that can bring the heat on the opposing QB consistently.

In comparison to the LBs and DL, yes it is the weak unit. I am very happy with the way they have played this year and thought they played very well last night. Mett was on fire. Not many CBs in the country are asked to do as much as Bama's, I'm satisfied with their play.

I notice this as well. Bama would often bring the blind side corner on a blitz and our RBs did a great job picking it up. That's where most of our big plays came from.

Name another team that has the power rushing game of LSU AND has a quarterback that can exploit the defense once you make us commit to the run.

The strength of Bama's defense is not that every player is a future pro bowler. It's in the fact that we force you to abandon one aspect of offense and rely completely on the run or pass. If you can run effectively AND throw well, we are vulnerable...but only if you can do both very well. Shockingly, LSU brought a QB along with their rushing game and it almost beat us.

Sunseri is terrible. Someone should tell saban his dad doesn't coach there anymore and he doesn't have to play him. Also, Nico Johnson is garbage in coverage.

We had 3 sacks (would've been 4, but apparently Dickson didn't sack Mett) and I know it isn't pass rush but we had like 10+ tackles behind the line.

So LSU did things different than they have all year, Mettenberger put the ball in very tight windows, LSU receivers actually caught the ball for first time this year...

But Bama's secondary sucks. Ok.

Did they just stick Milner on OBJ or did they just keep him on a side of the field?

Some was the coverages being played, some was Lsu WR's doing a good job. Definitely a concern. Mett didn't get rattled like I thought he would after some knockdowns. He stood his ground and made some good plays.

Bama got away from the ground game, for whatever reason, and the passing game being nonexistent for awhile, led to the defense being on the field an unreal amount of time. I think that played a part in some breakdowns as well. I can't see another team having such a large TOP on us going down the road.

I don't think it's a weak point as much as LSU handled the pressure of the blitz and Mett played the game of his life much like Garcia in 2010

This might shock you, but LSU has a BFT of talent on the offensive side of the ball. Bama's secondary is still good, no need to overreact.

A lot of those sacks came on blitzes on obvious passing situations. Bama had to blitz constantly because their front seven couldn't get to Mettenberger which left a lot of one on one matchups for LSU to exploit. The pass defense looked terrible but the defenders were left on an island constantly. You're asking a lot from them to expect them to win those one-on-one matchups. The pass rush is a much bigger weakness than the secondary.
