On Tennyson

Still on schedule is Donaven Tennyson and that one will be one I'm watching closely this weekend. He did not make the trip to Virginia Tech as once was planned. I think Tennessee could make a real move with him

Landon Dickerson

quote:

Dickerson tells me Tennessee, Virginia Tech and South Carolina are the three teams sticking out the most to him right now. He hopes to make some spring practice visits, including one to Tennessee. The Vols seemed to really impress him and I think they are legitimate factor here. Virginia Tech is really in it as well because of their engineering program and you can't dismiss the tie he has to Virginia Tech since his grandfather played there. But, in talking to his father he also mentioned that they are making a decision based on what's best for Landon and mentioned Tennessee is hard to beat when it comes to what they can offer student athletes.

Mike Jones Jr 2018

quote:

UT is my number-one school,” said Jones, who’s the son of former NFL defensive end Mike Jones Sr. and the younger brother of former Tennessee offensive tackle Steven Jones, who played for the Vols in 2003-07.

“I’m very interested in them. They’re my favorite school right now. Definitely, the first offer was a big part of it. But I’ve pretty much been around there, and my brother played there. It feels right around there. But I’ll see as the next three years go by.”

He said he’s already planning to return to Tennessee on March 7 for its next junior day. Jones said he plans to make the trip with one of his friends, Class of 2018 lineman Cade Mays of Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic High School — another Vols target.

The five-star junior defensive tackle from Lanier High School in Sugar Hill, Ga., ranked the Vols fourth among his early favorites, and he said he “hopefully” will be able to visit Tennessee at some point to take a closer look at the program.

Georgia, Auburn and Alabama, in order, are currently his top three choices, and he already has visited all three schools. But he said the Vols also have caught his attention.

“Watching them play, they’re on the come-up,” said Brown, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 18 overall prospect and No. 4 defensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite for the 2016 class. “They just got a new recruiting class — 2015 — and that class is really good, so I see Tennessee being a place that can possibly be a powerhouse the next few years.”

Don't think we pull this one but I thought I'd post it anyway.

On Kendall

quote:

He said he had a really good visit with DeBord and spent almost all of Saturday morning until the afternoon talking football, watching film, having lunch with DeBord and Nick Sheridan and Butch Jones.

They talked about how DeBord plans to add some things to the offense but that it will basically stay the same. He said the biggest thing about this visit was getting to know DeBord. He noted that he had a lot of energy and was surprised by that because he wasn't sure what to expect.

He said he's 'pretty comfortable,' with things at Tennessee right now and I asked him after visiting Kentucky how is he going to handle his recruitment, etc., he said he's not sure. He added he plans on being at one of Tennessee's spring practice to see what DeBord is like as a coach on the field, but first impressions were good he said.

Austin Kendall

quote:

It was just about getting up there and meeting coach DeBord and putting a face to a voice," Kendall said. "It was good to see him and meet him, finally. He's a real personable person and it was good to see him and hang out with him." "He's really energetic and I didn't expect that at all because he I know he's a little older. But, he's full of energy. I think he has a lot of knowledge, too," Kendall said.

"We did a lot of football stuff and we broke down the film and he showed me what Tennessee does, how the NFL does some of the same stuff," Kendall said. "They're not really going to change much, they are just going to add more stuff to the offense. With his added knowledge it will be good."

After Mike Bajakian left Tennessee for the Tampa Bay Bucs Kendall admitted it was hard because of how long the two had known each other for and the relationship they had built. After meeting DeBord Kendall says he's growing more comfortable around the new man in charge of the Vols' offense. "It has settled down. I'm pretty comfortable," Kendall said.

"I'm not really sure how I'm going to handle it (his recruitment) right now," Kendall said. "I want to see a spring practice under him (DeBord) and how he's coaching the quarterbacks. He will be with the quarterbacks, if not most of the time, the whole time, and I want to see what that is like," Kendall said.

On Darrell Middleton

quote:

Q:Will we try to get back involved with Middleton, or has that ship sailed?

A:If Middleton is doing things the right way, on and off the field, I think Tennessee will be a player. He's done a good job since he's been at Oak Ridge and he just needs to continue that. Also, this is purely a football thought, after watching his junior film closely, I'm not sure he's a great fit in what Tennessee does at end. He didn't seem to have that burst off the line they like in guys. Maybe he's a DT, but I don't think he's a pure end.

On Nigel Warrior

quote:

Q: Would you call us the favorites for Nigel Warrior?

A: I don't know if I would say favorite, maybe the logical early choice because of the familiarity and ties to the program. But, Ohio State is wanting to be a major player there, as is Auburn, where he just visited, and several others. This guy will be a big-time, national recruit.
