We have 3 players in the top 50 (2 of the 3 best RBs - period). For reference Louisiana also has 3 in the top 50. And we have 4 total in the top 100 - that's huge for us and yeah these things will rise and fall although usually not overmuch (I doubt anyone drops beyond the top 250 and they stay within their general ranking - the top 50 likely won't drop past the top 100) but TBH, because we're rather new to getting our guys taken seriously - ours typically have to be a little bit better to even get considered for the big accolades. That's changing because the last few classes have really proven there's a wealth of TN HS talent and it's only getting larger but it still plays a role.

Oh and Georgia and Florida don't count in terms of comparing things - your state populations are too large to even consider as a way of comparing talent. But consider we're getting to the point where we're producing on a level of LA and everyone else in the smaller SEC states, - TX, FL, and GA will never be catchable but that doesn't matter much given how close we are to Georgia, particulary Hotlanta but also N. Jawja (a lot of those guys are TN kids on the border, playing foosball in GA because of the ways school systems have worked out) ;-) but behind those three we have the highest population and the most room to improve in terms turning up instate talent.

Times are bright indeed and they've been trending this way for several years now. Also Nashville is expected to add over 1 million ppl over the next few years.

"There are several important announcements scheduled over the next few months for Vol targets and the first one likely up is Atlanta cornerback Micah Abernathy. Abernathy has plans to announce before his first game and as we've said now for several weeks this is a Tennessee-Ohio State battle and we continue to hear that Abernathy is leaning towards the Vols at this point.

Ohio State is continuing to battle there, but we're told the family likes the idea of him playing under Jones who they've known for some time and are fond of. The family likes Ohio State as well, but right now it looks like Tennessee is the team to beat according to several close to the situation."

"North Carolina defensive tackle Shy Tuttle announced he will release a decision on Sept. 26 and we continue to believe, as we've said for some time now, Tennessee is in the driver's seat there. We will continue to monitor whether or not he takes official visits before that announcement date and that could be a factor, but right now Tuttle is Tennessee's to lose."

"Drew Richmond is scheduled to announce a commitment on Sept. 9 and the race continues to be a tight one. But, the Vols are generating some consistent buzz here lately.

Now, the Ole Miss visit is crucial this weekend and the vibe could certainly change after that visit this weekend as he's set to be there with his parents and don't sleep on Ohio State, we were told late this week, as Urban Meyer is trying to make a charge to swoop in and take the coveted Memphis prospect. But, right now, there's a buzz around Richmond and the Vols the other schools don't have

One final note on Richmond, the new rankings are scheduled to be out next week and Richmond's strong showing on the camp circuit has helped his ranking and it will be interesting to see how high he climbs when the new Rivals100 is released."

To summarize, VQ is pretty much saying that Richmond, Tuttle and Abernathy will be VOLS within the next month.

Buck talking about Van Jefferson on VQ

quote:

a little nugget on Van. Today I was told that Urban told Van he would guarantee him 10 targets and the qb would be throwing at least 20 passes per game. Well Van talked to Torrence Gibson and also another coach at Ravenwood only to find out Urban lied again. He told Gibson that his passing skills are not that important as he'd get to run the ball at least 15-20 times a game. Van was definitely perturbed and said how could this guy make stuff up like this and continue to lie. Our barber said that's what he does and what recruiting is Van when it comes to this guy. Then he said I remember when Kelvin Taylor was in 9th grade he told us he'd never go to Fla, then CUM quit and he committed. He said he absolutely hated CUM and his lies. So with that being said I think UT is still in a good place with UGA and tOSU still hanging around.

quote:

Just put it this way Van doesn't want to be a blocking wr for a qb running offense like tOSU runs. He wants the chance to make plays at wr. It's pretty simple if you tell 1 player something and another something that contradicts it somebody is going to be offended and questioning your ability to tell the truth.

On Richmond, coming off the visit to Ole Miss I am told the Vols have a slight edge over the Rebels as of this morning.

On Sapp, honestly just thought I had Crystal Balled him to Tennessee a month ago,

QB Quinten Dormady was just bumped to a 4* on Rivals. He's now a 4* on every service except Scout.

Looks like 4* OG Venzell Boulware could be our next commitment.

Rivals

I was under the impression that he was a backup plan for Richmond but that doesn't seem to be the case now.

A week ago I would have said I don't know but after talking to some people after his visit he's a take and I think a decision could come sooner than Boulware originally planned. I think he's someone to watch out for over the next few weeks.

We are just over two weeks from Drew Richmond's scheduled announcement on Sept. 9 and while he's been quiet since his visit to Ole Miss, there hasn't been too much of a feel the Rebels have pulled momentum back their way from Tennessee. Certainly, this one isn't over yet, but the vibes from those we talk to about Richmond continue to suggest Tennessee is in front.

Ohio State may be the underdog here and certainly can't be counted out, but the feeling right now is Tennessee leads Ole Miss.

It's been no secret that Georgia linebacker Quarte Sapp has been a Tennessee lean for some time. But, what has remained a mystery for the quiet Sapp is when a commitment could come.

Late this week we began to hear that it could come very soon, possibly by the end of the weekend. Sapp hasn't answered the phone since he visited Knoxville in the summer and we weren't able to get a confirmation from Sapp on any upcoming decision, but several sources believe one is coming sooner rather than later and he may need to be placed on 'commitment watch' over the next few days to week.
