First, it will take about 27 seconds before there will be a demand for an African American coach. I think Charlie Strong becomes a leading candidate at that point.

I personally see value either way, but I do hope they hire the best coach period.

I highly doubt the BOT will want Strong. We'd have to miss on several before that happens.

All on the Jimbo train *toot toot*

ETA: And the BOT won't listen to outside pressures to hire a minority coach either.

I don't care if he is passion pink just as long as he can coach.

I don't think he has any interest in coming. IMO this is a case of Jimmy Sexton being Jimmy Sexton.

without starting a race debate, i don't race based hirings are as much an issue as a few years ago becuase they're not that much of an under represented class any more (african american head coaches that is).

I hope/fear that if we land strong it's becuase we missed on at least 3 other candidates (one maybe becuase auburn fans are pushovers and are afraid of the backlash from petrino)

Hope so. You wait though. Barkley will be chirping immediately about this. You watch. I do hope they just hire the best guy. I dont care at all about race.

Barkley didn't bring it up at all when they asked him about it on PTI.. I doubt you'll see Barkley go out of his way to suggest Willie Taggart or someone else.

Barkley was satisfied when they hired Barbee as head basketball coach.

And not a frick will be given. They'll hire who they want regardless of race.

Could care less about Barkley. He doesnt support the football team with a white coach. Because hes white. So he can GFH

Get the best guy... The right guy

Barkley said if you put the 2 resumes next to each other and made a blind choice, who would you pick...and us picking Chizik over Gill WAS about race, no other logic made sense.

Gill took a crap job and failed, Chizik got a top 6 SEC job, had a spark when he started but now he's just garbage...and we're back, or we will be back looking for a new coach years later. They both sucked TBH. A no-win situation...

I don't see a problem with Strong. But race seems to mean less to people born after 1980. I would still put Strong/Jimbo behind Petrino/Malzahn, IMO.

I will disagree. It was more about Jay Jacobs being a dumb-arse and giving his buddy the job even though he wasn't qualified.

I don't get a warm fuzzy over the guy, either.

No, and anyone who says that is just trying to MAKE it about race.

Chizik was hired because he was all buddy-buddy with Jay Jacobs when he was DC here, and he agreed to let the good ol' boy network do its thing in return for getting pulled out of the hell-hole that is Ames, IA.

He's been to multiple football games over the years since Chizik has been coach and was also at the NC game. He's been to AU twice this year that I know of to attend a game. His money certainly hasn't stopped rolling into the university as well.

Saying Charles doesn't support Auburn football is misleading and wrong.
