From what I hear, Hart is very high on him, but the booster are saying no.

I feel like, if Gruden doesn 't happen, he will be who we end up with.

I don't like it, but he can't be worse than Dooley. Hopefully he can more of a Jimbo Fisher or Muschamp than a Dooley.

I think he will be closer to Jimbo or Muschamp than Doolander. As always with a career assistant though, it's a gamble. At the very least he would probably recruit well enough that his replacement could win immediately.

Why do people keep asking Bama fans this question? He is not Bama's HC. He seems to be a very good DC, but like everyone says it is Saban's defense. He has learned for the last 6 years from one of the best, but who knows how that will translate to running a big time program. I personally wish he would go to a mid major for a few years before jumping in the deep end.

I don't think he'd go to one of bama's main rivals out of respect for Saban. Arky? I could see that. Just not Auburn or UTen

Same shite most of our people were saying about Dools. At least he has been a coordinator. Though being a coordinator under Saban makes me question how much of the defensive performance is actually Smart's doing.

I would guess that he will be something like Muschamp but a little more controlled. He is qualified to be a head coach at this point but you have to wonder what type of assistants he would get. I would imagine Sunseri would remain his DC but I don't know that.

Kirby will probably be a great Head coach.

He's not ready is my "guess". Nick runs that show down there and that includes being heavily involved with the defense. I think Smart is a good DC but the level of expectations might be too hard for him to overcome....jmo.

If we hire Smart, we should then convince Chavis to come home.

We could seriously break Neyland's NCAA record 17 straight shutouts if that happened.

I was joking of course, but do you know for a fact since you are an insider that sides have not made handshake deals. Unless you are an insider then basically it is your opinion and you could be further from the truth then me

so you can back that up...his defensives have been ranked in the top 10 in the past 3 years and that includes all the turnover of new starters.

Well, I have been told by a guy that knows a guy that works on the head phones on the sidelines that contrary to popular belief, 99 times out of 100 Saban lets the OC and DC do their own thing. He might give an opinion here and there, but as crazy as it sounds, he gets ignored as often as he doesnt. I found this to be VERY surprising.

This tells me that Smart is as much the brains behind the defense as Saban is, possibly more. If that is the case, and I have no reason to think either of the gentlemen I am speaking of would lie about it, then that takes away all the BS you hear about the O and D being Saban's babies and he just has coordinators to carry out his gameplans.

Basically, I think he would be a pretty good HC based on our defense's performance knowing that it really does seem to be him and not just Saban with him running it.

Dooley was never a coordinator under Saban. That's the difference. Jimbo Fisher was Saban's OC for all five years Saban was at LSU. Will Muschamp became Saban's defensive coordinator at age 31, was a NFL DC at age 34, and spent almost a decade as a coordinator before becoming a head coach. Dooley has never run an offense. He has never called plays. He never had to put together an offensive gameplan. He had no shot at being a successful head coach at a place like Tennessee.

No clue until he does; however, if there is anyone of the coordinators we have had under Saban I would think would be an excellent HC is smart.
