Can somebody explain who hears what on the coaches headsets? Are they all patched together, or are certain coaches patched with other certain coaches? It is critical that I know this!

All except Saban. He's wired in directly to Bear Bryant.

I did a report on this in a telecommunications class..

Both. They can be all patched together and the head coach can directly patch to a coordinator too in most of those systems.

Saban is seriously an a-hole. No respect for the dead

From what I have seen and heard from coaches:

There are usually two channels
One for defense, one for offense

When the OC or DC talk, everyone on that channel is supposed to shut up

The HC can switch back and forth between channels to talk to the OC or DC

The OC or the DC talks to the communicator on the sideline who then tells the hand signal guys what to signal. If the HC is going to over rule a play it will be when the OC or DC is talking to the communicator.
