Now I know what Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mizzou, Vandy, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and soon to be Grinders feel like with not much left to play for besides the Outback Bowl

I dunno about y'all but the LSU game was hard enough to stomach, but the UF game drained me completely of my football interest. I guess the Clemson game is the only thing to look forward to but I cringe at the thought of us playing them on road.

Yet another year and yet another let down.

Same. In a day my primary interest went from SC and college football to all NFL.

Obviously still want SC to do well and will watch every minute of every game but not the same.

I'll take 10-2 with a fourth win in a row over Clemson. Should end up no lower than the Outback Bowl. I do agree, though, this week has been strange. I couldn't get myself off the forums the week before Georgia.

You guys don't really think we'll win out let alone beat Clemson on the road do you? Our team is so down and out right now I'm prepping to loose to UT this weekend. Because at least they'll show up, want to win and play hard. I seriously have no idea what happened but we suck right now, real bad.

Our defense is not sucking...they are still playing as hard as they can, and if our offense can pull their heads out of their butts and generate some consistency on the field, then we go right back to being what we mostly expected ourselves to be: a team with moderate offense but dominant defense that will make the difference...

I wanted to win the division this season, but mostly I want the program to become a more consistent winning program that expects more out of itself than just hopefully having a winning season or bowl-eligible season. IF we can win out the rest of the season, IMO we'll snap right back towards the front of the SEC-East in terms of contention for 2013....

UGA will be losing a lot of leadership on defense for 2013. UT and AR will most likely be dealing with new coaching staffs. We'll have an easier schedule for 2013, and play UF in Williams-Brice with a bye-week to prepare for them...

Next season we most likely lose Lattimore (some rumbling think he'll return especially with this year not turning out as well for him, despite all the draft projections) and Miles, but will still have a deep RB roster of Davis, Wilds, Salley, Carson, etc. We lose T.J. Johnson at C, but return everyone else on OL which will be deeper and more experienced. We lose Moore at WR and Cunningham at TE, but are over-loaded at both positions....

On defense, the biggest hit will be at LB, losing all the 2-deep. We'll have some talent there and plenty of options, but they'll be young and inexperienced. We'll lose Taylor at DE but return Clowney and will have Sutton, Dixon, Hill, and English to fill out the 2-deep...

We lose Jerideau but return Quarles, Dukes, Dixon Jr., Surratt, plus Deon Green will return to play DE/DT so the depth there will be fine.

We lose Holloman and Swearinger will be big hits to our secondary, but return both starting CBs plus Christian and McWilliams to back them up. We'll have Williams at SS and Diggs and Gurley will step in at Spur and FS, respectively...

IMO, a lot of youth but also a lot of talent...really, only Lattimore and the entire LB position are areas that I feel we'll be missing the leadership, and will have a hard time replacing or covering the losses with solid play elsewhere. Let's keep this ball rolling....

When you say "used to"...do you mean prior to LSU 2012 or as in Fat Brad days?

Fat Brad days. Even Holtz days.

We still have a good chance at 10-2 season. Yes it's less than what any of us wanted, but damn it still feels better to be a Gamecock than 5-10 years ago.

You are absolutely right. But on a personal level, I live in BR so I am stuck watching all these LSU dipshit people winning championships while ridiculing our team (prob rightfully so). I know we are light years ahead of Fat Brad/Holtz days and 10 wins is nothing to scoff at. I am just ready to take that next step and win an SEC Title to validate our program to LSU and rest of SEC.

We only get Lattimore/Clowney type program changers once in a very long while and our timeframe for doing so is running out. That's the most frustrating part.

I went to Florida, and I will admit, that was the longest drive home from an away game I have ever had. Longer than after we got killed by Auburn 48-7 in 2005, and even longer than after getting destroyed 56-6 in the Swamp in 2008. I just felt like our guys completely lost the edge we had developed this year. As far as saying the season is lost, I disagree with that. If we win these last four, plus the bowl game, it will take a lot of the sting out of it. Rome wasn't built in a day, and Spurrier has done a hell of a lot better job than ANYONE we have ever had. We aren't Bama or LSU yet, but we are certainly engraved in that second tier, and thats a lot better than the fourth tier that we had been in until SOS got here.

I will continue to watch the big games, but my interest has declined a little too.
What I find interesting is just how similar South Carolina, Florida, and LSU are offensively. They're all one-dimensional, run-first teams. On another note, the 3 have strong defenses. One major difference is Special Teams. Would that have made the difference in the LSU game? I occasionally visit cockytalk and have read numerous opinions there, but what ultimately would you change about the coaching to take the Gamecocks to the next level?

I am going to drop a name here, and I know its super popular and cliche-ic to come out and do this, but I think that Connor Mitch may be the guy to take us to the next level. While Connor Shaw is a formidable QB, he is not near the top of the SEC. I could very easily see Spurrier go back to the Fun n Gun days of the 1990s if he just had the QB to take him there. Its sad that in 8 years, we haven't had a single QB develop into an All-SEC player. I am perfectly happy with the coaching staff as it is, but I am not happy with some of the players. Our OL is consistently mediocre, as is our QB play. Those are the two biggest things I would like to see change.

What made it worse was that it poured down rain. My GF and I left right after halftime when Percy Harvin turned that one yard run into 75.

I'm hoping like everyone else that this will turn out to be true. It seems like we are always looking at our next big recruit to finally push us over the top, though.

I don't know what happened to Shaw these past few games, his passing decisions and accuracy has completely gone out the window.
