I think so. Recruiting sites present a false sense of talent and with that comes expectations.

Auburn fans argued all off-season that they were talented and that the young talent on this team would shine through. Especially on defense they had plenty of young talented players in the secondary etc.

I told them they were definitely in the bottom half of the SEC in terms of talent. They have 1 inconsistent difference maker on defense and their best player on offense is a TE.

Chizik needs one more class to right the ship.

I agree that recruiting site rankings are somewhat garbage at times, but there's no disputing that Auburn has been bringing in better talent than what is being displayed on the field.

A good coach would have them in a good bowl this year IMO

Auburn has signed plenty of talent. They just don't have a coaching staff that can develop or keep them in line. Inmates running the asylum.

With all that top-flight coaching of the Wide Receivers under $uper Trooper, I can't believe 5-Stars like DeAngelo Benton & Trovon Reed never panned out.

If Chizik is picking his recruits based on stars and rankings and not on personal evaluations then he deserves to be fired.

If this

is true, despite having highly rated classes, then it isn't a problem with fans having high expectations. It is a problem with the coaches evaluating talent.

eta: or if the talent is there then it is a problem developing said talent.

Ultimately, wins and losses get coaches fired.

No reason to believe otherwise. We do have a lot of young talent, it just isn't being utilized.

then you're a fool. Auburn has been recruiting the same guys that LSU, Alabama, Florida, UGA and FSU has been recruiting. The difference is that their talent gets on the field and is coached before and while there.

Most Auburn fans are certainly quick to jump his arse but Chizik did an amazing job bringing the team together the first year he was here. He has done an amazing job of bringing talent here. And he has done an amazing job of not coaching the talent that he brings in. There were some odd ball hickups along the way that couldn't be avoided. But overall, Chizik will be remembered fondly by me and he is leaving a lot of talent in place for the next coach. He has just lost control of the team and I think it stems from a couple assistants not being seriously considered for open positions.

If a coach is basing whether or not he offers a scholarship to a recruit based off a web site he deserves to be fired.

My related question is how much are recruiting sites influenced by who's doing the recruiting? If Bama recruits a kid, does he gain a couple stars? Are SEC recruits given a nudge up based upon the reputation of the league? I think you could make this argument.

So if a coaching staff isn't great at talent evaluation and a site nudges the recruit up based upon reputation, it could play a role. But ultimately that comes back on the staff's evaluation.

There is a dude who does season predictions is March based on nothing more than recruiting rankings, home field advantage, and trends on how coaches perform relative to their talent level.

And he predicts more than 80% of games correct.

In March.

No team has gotten to the BCS title game without averaging at least 16th (or somewhere around that mark) in recruiting over the past 4 years.

Recruiting rankings can deceive because of attrition, but honestly they are accurate in a broad sense.

Teams imploding like that is a mixture of bad luck and or just terrible coaching.

Whose fault is it if they don't have enough talent?
