For all the talk of Charlie Strong, Jon Gruden, Bobby Petrino, etc., why is nobody talking about the possibility that Mullen may make a jump to another conference team? Is it too low a likelihood that an Auburn wouldn't go and offer him a much more attractive offer and position than anything State could ever provide?

What are the thoughts on Mullen?

This is not meant to instigate all the State fans. He's been successful at State and is a formidable coach. Serious question.

Seriously, I think Mullen is thought of more highly by Grinders than by other schools, alumni, and fans in general. I realize that winning soothes a lot of ruffled feathers, and will allow people to overlook a bunch of cringeworthy behavior on his part. But in all, I think there is a reason he is not being poached.

To be honest, I think he is a pretty good fit right where he is. I hope he's a Grinder for life.

Hard to imagine between Arkansas, Tennessee, and Auburn that Dan wouldnt be a top 3 candidate. I said all summer long that if State beats UT, then Dooley is gone and Dan would be a serious candidate. I doubt he'd leave State for Arkansas, but the iron bowl would be HILARIOUS if Dan went to Auburn. Updyke would kill that man in his sleep.

He wouldn't leave for another team in the SEC unless it was one of the big 3. (Bama, LSU, Florida)

I just don't think you see him jump in conference. If other jobs were to come open you could see a jump but I would keep my eyes more on like Arizona seeing as Byrne hired him. TBH though I don't think anyone will put up the money it will take to get him until he wins the West. He is getting almost 3 mill a year and is locked into a 4 year contract, and we would go higher if needed.

Mullen knows the X's and O's guy and wont leave to go to another school that is struggling with recruiting or have to recruit directly against Alabama. He will go somewhere that recruits pour into.

Godfrey living in Nashville says that UT fans speak very highly of Mullen and that was before he beat them.

Because he's a decent coach, not a great one.

But if one of the majors came calling he'd ditch MSU in a heartbeat... he'd be stupid not to.

He might bring some NCAA sanctions with him.

Nebraska fans like Mullen. Not sure how hot Bo's seat is but if things dont turn around then he's gone soon. Thats a sleeping monster. Their new stadium rennovations are sick

LSU and Florida both directly recruit with Alabama and have success. I think he would take those jobs if offered.

I see him being more of a Big 10 guy though.

If Nebraska came calling I think we would have to worry about it. That is a coaches dream, expectations aren't retarded like they are at some schools and they have all the potential to win the conference within 2 years of a good coach stepping in. Beautiful stadium and the national media support you need.

Well, yeah.

He isn't in the mix for the Arkansas job, the reason? Look at his record, not over all but who he has beaten. There is something to say about Gene Chizik having a winning record over just one SEC West coach and that being Dan Mullen. Then you have to over look the losses to CUSA and WAC teams while Dan is "winning big for Ms. State" and it is similar to the "Nutt does less with more" fallacy he had while at Arkansas.

If Long was to offer Mullen the position, I doubt the board of trustees would approve the hire or his salary similar to the block of the Bowden hire.

In short, Arkansas, Auburn, and Tennessee have higher aspirations than the Music City Bowl and are willing to take a chance on an unknown before settling for a known MCB caliber coach.

Honestly, with what he has started building and what he has invested into this program. I don't see him leaving anytime soon. His family loves Starkville. The stadium expansion will be done in 2 years. He is REALLY starting to get the recruits he wants to run the program the way he wants (Cord Sandberg for example, if he doesn't go to MLB). The new football facility will be done this year.

If anything were to happen, he would simply use it to renegotiate his contract for more money. This is all just my opinion, of course.

Shut your Whore mouth. I would prefer Auburn to go 0-100 before going for that mullethead Merlins.

Well yeah, he wouldnt take a lateral job or just small bump up like Arkansas. Why would he want to rebuild a program that is only a little better overall and is worse currently? He'd only leave for a top 20 coaching job (UT, AU, Nebraska). Not Arkansas.
