Are they not illegal in the SEC? I would think cowbells would fall under noise makers and those are not allowed. Noticed a shite ton of them in yesterdays State game, almost gave me a headache and I wasn't even there.

This is a jizz jar you do not want to open....

Its their only tradition, something about a cow helping them beat Ole Miss.

I think they made an exception for MSU to bring them to ring them "only during timeouts and commercial breaks". Obviously you aren't going to enforce that rule on thousands of people, but it's the actual rule. Not really an issue unless MSU starts being a force and it's a feared place to go play.

They don't enforce it because State has a high school stadium. They are just trying to even the field for them.

Although I think to be fair, every stadium should be allowed cowbells when MSU comes to town.

Hate those damn things. Was in Starkvegas last year. Bama won, but I left with the worst damn headache.

Funniest thing I've ever witnessed live at a CFB game was Mullen taking a microphone at about the 30 and telling the fans to "respect the bell" and not ring it during play then throwing the microphone to the ground and stomping off like it was a pro wrasslin match. Then they play a video about how to respect the bell but the sound doesn't synch with the video at all. Bizarre as hell start to a football game.

Cowbells = the [unauthorized] proxy for teams whose fans are incapable of making noise without the use of toys.

The same could be said for the multiple SEC stadia I've seen/heard over the past couple of months who pipe-in modern, professional music over their sound-systems, as opposed to allowing their university bands to take care of the tunes. Not a dig; just not something I've ever seen before (outside of Texas high school games).
