I did a paper on that team in college.

Some of them in the picture look 40 years old. The dates are the most impressve feat...five games in a week!?

Also: I think the SEC didn't come into existence until 1932 or something, so that is a "South Conference" team that was called "University of the South".

1899 Auburn was the only team to score on them!

1899 Auburn could probably beat 2012 Auburn.

It's hard to compare teams to the modern era.

Pat Dye had some hard hitting teams before he got caught cheating. His teams would just beat you down.

Of course it's now known what was done to build those teams. They were still very tough.

The Southern Conference wasn't even around in 1899. Back then we were in an organization called the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Auburn: a proud tradition of moral victories since 1899.
