I'm 4 Bobby. I don't care about the fake image Auburn tries to front. Let's just thug it out until we get it right.

If they were to hire BP after this I could very well see myself stop being an Auburn fan.

Ignoring all of his personal problems, his tenure here in 2002 was not "glory days" (cue the BRUCE). His offensive philosophies don't mesh for shite with the "hard nosed run game" and "big time D" most people on here claim they want. Saban would eat his lunch on the recruiting trail and would (and already HAS) spank his arse on the playing field. Some "glory days" those would be on the Plains.

Tiger/Miami - any other hgh profile ex college coaches that you can think of who still roam the halls of their ex-program like Dye?

No. But Dye can do what he wants considering all he gave and did for AU. He is not causing harm. He wants what is best for AU and loves AU about as much as any coach has ever loved a school IMO. And yeah, he knows exactly what is going on at AU. He is certainly an insider. But he is not pulling the strings at AU anymore. So he goes on radio shows and talks shop. Big deal, who cares? People need to grow a thicker skin if what rivals say influences their opinion about what an ex-coach should or shouldn't be doing or saying.

But that is not the point or not even relevant. Dye can do whatever he wants at AU as long as he is alive IMO. He earned a free lifetime pass many years ago in my book.

I don't care so much about BP's image but I would rather have a great defense. It is hard to have a good defense when you run a hurry up or quick strike offense. The defense gets worn out quick and you have to score a ton of points to win games. I would rather go after a Defensive minded coach with a running style offense.

Well, that's where we see the "It's a God thing" cease to exist. Forgiveness is something you only try and implement into practice when you've been caught being "unholy"... Not saying Petrino should be AU's next coach, I'm just saying he definitely won't be.

Loved Dye. And I know he loves AU. But he did not leave the program on the best of terms, despite what people argue about in terms of where his "heart" was with all the infractions.

He can be an ambassador for the program in public. But he should not be in the football complex on a regular basis.

The image the football team tries to portray is the image that the university actually has. Hiring Bobby Petrino hurts the football teams "fake image" but also the true image of the university as a whole.

Do not want. Talking about Petrino is pointless anyway b/c he won't be hired here. Period.

I'm still trying to figure out how everyone knows he's in the complex on a regular basis?

Or is this just an assumption everyone makes?

Ummm...did u see how good the offense was in 2002?!?! Caddy got hurt in like the 6 game and already had over 700 yds, then Brown comes in and runs for 1000 yds....

For Christ sakes, Tre Smith ran for 100 yds on a 10-2 Bama team.

BPs offense is a big reason we started 03 so high, and we fell on our face without him

I've not formed an opinion on whether we should let go of Chizik or not and certainly have some problems with the idea of hiring Petrino but just for discussions sake another pro of hiring would be that we could probably get him pretty cheap. I also feel like after a year or 2 of winning myself and even the most hardcore anti BP fans would start to warm up to him.

Wow. Just wow.

That's Joe Paterno-type talk.

This. I don't know if I'd want Petrino back, but his offense is fine. It's the defense that's held him back forever, which is concerning.
