So I found a new handle on Twitter to follow. @AU_History. They post random posts from AUs football history.

Todays post:

quote:

Jordan-Hare @AU_History: 10/05/1985: Bo Jackson rushes for 240 yrds and 2 TDs and the AU defense holds Ole Miss to a total of 9 yrds and 1 first-down. AU 41 Rebs 0

I long for the days of seeing a defense like this.

Anyways I thought this Twitter handle was an interesting follow and thought some of you might enjoy reading some of these.

You will never see any offense held to nine yards and one first down in this day-in-age.

Damn that is ridiculous. When was the last time a defense for any school held a team for single digit yards?

Last time we played Arkie at Home... Auburn 65 Arkie 43...

Last three years, Arkie has scored 44,43, and 38...

Well there's my nomination for most random post of the day.

I agree. I think the most impressive defense I've seen AU play in recent memory was the second half of Florida in 2006. I think they gave up like 40 total yards that half to the #1 team...I miss the days were we could rely on the D to win a game if needed

This is moreso what I meant when I said I long for the days of a defense like this. A D that just completely smothers the other team. Offense is fun but there is just some satisfaction is shutting down the other team.

Have you seen our offense this year?

After years of wishing the opposite under Tubs, and seeing what it looks like under Chizik, I agree 100%. I'll take a stout defense and a turrible offense over the opposite any day of the week.

Actually, I have.

And our worst performance was 20 times better than the 1985 Ole Miss game.

I realize that, I was trying to make light of our recent troubles on offense. Levity- maybe it was blocked by my work filters.

I hate our entire QB situation for the past decade.

Campbell in '04 and Newton in '10. Beyond that, I with you.

Why can't we get a QB to build around?

Saw that game on ESPN. Saturday night in J-H.

Ole Miss was awful, but we made them look worse. And that wasn't even one of our better defensive units that season (Tennessee and their cokehead QB had already manhandled us, Florida would run us all over the field later that year, and TAMU hung 38 on us in the Cotton Bowl).

But that night was glorious. Bo's performance was one of his best, as the Rebs did have a pretty decent defense themselves. My favorite part was a sideline shot of Bo in the fourth quarter, stretched out on the AU bench, sound asleep. Classic.

Not for me. I have always been a proponent of a stout D. I like to watch high powered offenses except when it comes to my own team. Outside of winning the championship in 2010 I hated it. Because every game knew AU could score but the other teams could too, so you always had to worry would our D's "bend don't break" mentality do well enough to allow us to score more.

The most satisfying win IMO in 2010 was USCe in the SECCG. We dominated in pretty much every part of the game.

I agree. I was there and it was awesome. Had no nervousness through out the whole game, which was rare that year.
