Ole Miss fans and wealth?

Mississippi is the poorest state in the nation. Why does Ole Miss have the perception of a wealthy school when the state as a whole is poor?
Is this a facade and most rich alums are from out of state or is almost all wealth in the state associated with Ole Miss?

It's a napoleon complex. Ole Miss sucks. The state sucks. So they cope by having a really snobby attitude in the face of it.

There is a huge disparity of wealth in MS.

Ole Miss has more out of state money. Plus all the doctors in the state and a good portion of lawyers graduate from Ole Miss. Also have a decent amount of graduates high up in the political spectrum.

Because only poor people in MS are poor. Most Mississippians are hard working middle class folks. I guarantee there are four times the amount of poor people in TX than MS has. Our population is just so tiny that statistics really stick out.
There are places in MS that are just as affluent as what TX has. But no one does studies or articles on those places

Being a doctor or lawyer does not mean you are wealthy, FWIW

Not so much as in the past.
Phil Bryant is an USM grad, and Tate Reeves is a Milsaps grad and State fan.
The Ole Miss law school Good Ole Boy network in State politics in Mississippi is beginning to shrink.
ETA: Both MS US Sentators are Ole Miss Grads, but none of the US State Reps from Mississippi are.

It may have to do with the big greek life scene they have on campus? When I went to BAMA, a lot of the people in my fraternity, and involved in greek life in general, acted rich and snobby. Now half of them are bartenders/bouncers in Tuscaloosa or still looking for jobs. Not being a dick but its true.

Oh just shut the frick up now, Al.
Anyway, a lot of out of state students have money. There are some in state kids with it too. What of it?

Texas would have more in the aggregate, but not in the propotion as Mississippi. In Texas there is also a large immigrant population that is still integrating itself into the US economic system. That's not really true in Mississippi.
Just seems strange that there is so much widespread generational poverty in the state, but the most well known instituiton in the state is known as a wealthy oasis.

26,000,000 compared to 3,000,000 says you're right. That still makes you very poor. Mississippi=the poors.
All BS aside, Mississippi of top heavy with money. Just watch "The Help" and it's easy to see why.

That would be pretty good considering Texas has 10x the population ...

You ever been to MS? Go to Carthage or Morton/Forest where a majority of the town are immigrants working for chicken plants.

They do, and they can't get into Tennessee, Texas, Georgia or other big Universities where they live so they settle for Ole Miss and try to act like they run the university and they are filthy rich.
The best people at Ole Miss are Mississippi students, out of state students at Ole Miss act so freaking snobby and fake its unbearable.
