quote:Agree 100% - Saban HATES stupid penalities, just goes to show how detailed he is with this team, how involved with every little facet of the production and developement of the players. I doubt very seriously we will see another game this year where we commit 7 penalties again.
I'm glad Saban is getting the penalties turned around for us. 7 against Mich and Arky were inexcusable. After Arky, they went to 3, and down to 2 last week. I expect 2 or just 1 next week against Mizzou.

Apparently, the SEC officials had Alabama bias in 1996, because you notice the penalties went from 100 in '95, to 65 in '96.
Those are from Michigan State. These are all Saban numbers. Point being, while yes, there was a nice decrease, he's still never proven to be as "disciplined" of a coach as he has been since 2007. Sure did do a lot of "growing as a coach" from a very bad Miami teams in 2005-2006 to 2007 when he instantly became the beacon of fair play. Look, I have no idea why it would be, but no reasonable person could deny it's a questionable delta from his time at Alabama, compared to his time anywhere else as a head coach.
For transparency, I can't find the Toledo football statistics prior to 2000.

Since I'm bored right now...
Penalty Totals for Saban teams by year:
2011 - 49
2010 - 66
2009 - 69
2008 - 57
2007 - 59
2004 - 72
2003 - 102
2002 - 92
2001 - 77
2000 - 81
1999 - 75
1998 - 72
1997 - 62
1996 - 65
1995 - 100
Nope, nothing to see here.

just goes to show how detailed he is with this team
In all seriousness, why is it that LSU fans in particular can't just accept their own team's successes and focus on that, rather than constantly obsessing over Alabama? Isn't their program successful enough on its own? It's kinda sad.

So an LSU fan is posting a thread about officials cheating???
This is new because in the past they would at least wait until after they lost to start this...preemptive strike?

You're right, I forgot I'm supposed to be practicing for my role at left tackle and also helping Chavis scheme against the UF run game!! I'd better focus! Thanks!

Like I posted above, LSU has a huge game in the Swamp in two days and InLesWeTrust is wasting his time dragging up Nick Saban's history on penalties?
WTF is wrong with LSU fans that can't celebrate their own team & coaches success and focus on a huge rival game they have on the horizon?

The following isn't directed at you, RT, I just happened to click reply on your post for convenience sake.
Penalties were one of the things Saban said he was going to address his first year at Bama. I don't know that he ever made it a priority before then - at least not as much as other parts of the process.
That being said, why is it if you're winning and/or doing well, you must be cheating?
I see holding calls that are missed in every game, whether it's Bama playing or any other SEC team.
Typical Tin-Foil-hattery going on here.
If you really want to prove this theory, go watch every Bama game from last year and count the non-called penalties. Then watch every other game for every other team in the conf and do the same. Tally it up and show the proof.
Hell, it'd probably be a great research/thesis topic for some of you 'tards getting a masters degree in Bamasessed.

I mean, when he came to LSU, he wasn't nearly as revered as he was when he came to Alabama. The kids who come to Alabama respect him, so maybe they actually listen when he preaches, and do what he says.

But carry on with your conspiracy if you choose to. I don't really care. I get a kick out of you guys when you start threads like this.

An Alabama fans comes into a thread with absolutely nothing at all to add to the discussion but to ask about the discussion itself? This is also new.

In his defense, what he said was pretty accurate. You guys are notorious for crying "foul" about officiating.

You're right, I forgot I'm supposed to be practicing for my role at left tackle and also helping Chavis scheme against the UF run game!! I'd better focus! Thanks!
Wasting your time on digging up old shite on a coach that hasn't been at LSU for damn near 8 seasons is just sad when you have a great coach and a team that is gunning for another shot at the NC.

Agreed. Also, look at his w/l record at MichSt. vs LSU vs Bama. He's won more games at Bama - which could mean a few different things, depending on which team you pull for. If you're a...
Bama fan: CNS has nearly perfected his process as it relates to its effect on young impressionable athletes. CNS has learned more and gotten better at what he does the more experience he has gotten in his career (which is true with most careers)
LSU/Aub fan: CNS is cheating
