He coached himself out of contention, and now he is coaching himself back in. started 0-3 and is 3-4 now with UMass and UK coming up.

Strong would be a complete 180 in coaching philosophy, not sure we go that direction.

It would be a shame to hire a head coach that thinks defense matters, especially when looking on the offensive side and realize running backs are the only sure thing the next coach will have to build around next year.

I'm concerned our fans will want high octane offense and not be satisfied otherwise.

The concern I have is an offensive coach can work with the talent we have on offense. I'm not sure a defensive coach can do much more with our current defensive players. I still want Gary Patterson as the next coach.

Legitimate concern, however when you really look at it the "talent" that will remain on the offensive side will be just as unproven as on the defensive side, with a few lucky breaks with the NCAA and sixth year grants, the defense will actually be the proven commodity.

In short, a rebuild will have to take place regardless, so no need in limiting your options in a feeble attempt to salvage what is left, we already tried that this year.

We know Kragthorpe will make the situation worse, Strong is the only head coach with a proven record of cleaning up a program post Petrino.

Might actually be a good thing with what we're losing on Offense and we return nearly the entire D.

But seriously, I think right now would be a good time to change philosophies. Strong is showing he can right the ship.

I have a feeling our fanbase is not going to be patient enough for a defensive coach to come in and clean it up. I wouldn't be mad at having Strong at all, but I wonder if our fanbase would give him proper time to get things rolling.

I'll be more blunt. I'm afraid our fans will forget Petrino's shortcomings and failings and start pining to develop the program exactly as he ran it. Nolan is a perfect example of this.

that and honestly... I just like the offense we had from a pure entertainment standpoint

being realistic, we aren't goiugn to be int he national nunt every year. shite, we aren't going to be int he SEC west hunt every year. we weren't even with petrino EVERY year. I doubt we ever have the abiltiy to just re load like that. and in the mean time, i'd at the very least, prefer to be entertained by a high octane offense. plus we have a niche, a unique selling point.

I don't like it when someone says that they want an offense centric coach and the detractors automatically take the extreme opposite approach by saying that you can't win without having a good defense. id on't think anyone here wants a hsitty defense lol but I don't want a steller defense at hte cost of having a houston nutt offense. frick that shite.

with that said, if we can get patterson, throw all that shite out the window and hire him lol. otherwise i'd prefer to go offense first. the only way a defensive minded coach woudl make sense is if he were a truely elite defensive coach like patterson is. butch davis falls into that category as well plus he can recruit on that level. but someone like strong i don't see as an elite defensive coach. a coach that is going to come in and get us, 4th or 5th in total defense at the expense of having the 8th or 9th best offense, we are staring the music city bowl in the face year in and year out

As as opposed to having a top 5 offense and staring at the liberty or cotton bowl year in and year out?

but at least the team will be fun to watch.

i can live with cotton/music city/outtback with the every once in a while sugar bowl or sort assuming we are fun to watch.

Winning is fun to watch, not losing 55-63.
