Offense
Defense
Special Teams

For Bama, I give:

Offense - A .. Ran the ball at will, looked good passing, good decisions by McCarron. Overall, very pleased.

Defense - A- .. Great run defense, pass defense was good, but spotty at times. Youngness in the DB's showed in a few plays. Milliner looked great, as did Lester.

Special Teams - C .. I'm not sure we could kick into the endzone from the 50 yd line. Foster nailed a nice 50+ yarder, and just missed another over 50. Punting was solid and coverage was overall, pretty decent.

Penalties - C .. First game, lots of new starters. Some were expected, maybe had more than they should have though. IMO, a couple were iffy personal fouls, when they were good hits. Nico's on Denard was one example. He didn't hit him in the head and his feet weren't even on the turf from the throw, but he was called for a personal. I expect this will show the biggest improvement moving on.

How do you grade your team?

I'll give them a 913 out of 1000.

Edit: Ranking is too complex to try and explain.

Offense B-
Defense B+
Special Teams A

Running game is still spectacular. Hilliard and Blue were a great 1-2 punch. Passing game struggled a bit, Mett looked just ok.

Defense was simply stifling until Reid jumped a route with under 2 minutes to play before half on 3rd down, which allowed a 80 yard TD for N. Texas.

Honey Badger who on punt returns? Beckham, JR is better. LSU's back-up punter is fabulous. Depth, Depth, and more depth.

Offense: B-

Lost focus and looked sluggish in the 2nd qtr. Got rolling again when Berkstresser came into the game.

Defense A-

Except for the penalties and giving up 10 pts to SELA. They played very well getting 2 defensive tds.

Special Teams A

Marcus Murphy's 2 punt return tds and Hansbroughs 58 yrd kick return more than make up for the missed extra point.

Incomplete

First string OG's only played 1 series. Hard to read much into it after they came out. Defensive starters only played 2 or 3 series

LSU

Offense: B
Running game looked great with Hilliard leading the attack. Pass blocking looked OK not great. Mett is an upgrade from the JJ/Lee era as one of his couple of down field passes was a 34 yard missile on a rope to Boone. He will improve

Defense: A-

Dline was STOUT against the run. We still could play better against the pass but our young corner to replace mathieu, jalen mills looked good out there for a freshman. Mingo looked like a first round draft pick.

Special Teams: A

Who needs the Honey Badger? We have Odell Beckham Jr. Who had two punt returns for TDs with one called back for a penalty..we will not miss a beat in the return game

Our other Australian punter, Jamie Keehn looked good in replacing Brad Wing who is nursing a tweaked hamstring. Alleman looked good

Overall a sloppy but dominant win for LSU against a scrappy NT squad. I think we will dominate Washington next week

Our secondary needs some work. We also need to put some stick 'em on our hands to keep from fumbling.

Offense....B+ I think we were watching a toned down version of offense.

Offensive line....B I think for a patch quilted line they did pretty well. I don't have stats but they seemed like when the camera was on them on the sideline they were pretty happy. I'm sure that will change come thier first practice.

Defense...B+ They looked pretty good. Still to many open recievers running loose. Georgia will capitalise on this if they don't fix it. Takeaways...I think like a + 3 or 4? Two returned for touchdowns....exellent. Thier QB was under pressure the whole game. SE louisiana run game shut down.

Special Teams....A How can you argue with two punt returns for touchdowns. missed extra point is un-acceptable.

Penalties....C Game should have been a shutout. Penalties at bad times will cost them games with SEC teams. Thats gotta be fixed and quick.

Overal team grade....A- Penalties at bad times, missed extra point, open recievers. Still overal a "vanilla" example of what they can do. They have some explosive new players and some that are returning from injury last season that will make a difference.

Offense: A-. Hold onto the ball a little better. It doesn't take alot of fumbles to lose a game. But overall, the offense was the 'scoring machine' that Freeze said he would build.

Defense: B-. Was heading straight to F, but they righted things at halftime and almost got the shutout in the second half.

Special Teams: B. Punting couldn't be any better. A missed field goal and a kickoff out of bounds are areas for improvement.

Overall, I'm pleased thus far. It's early but Freeze could very well have the program heading in the right direction.

I guess I will be the first Auburn guy in here:

Offense: C+/B- The offense wasn't bad but it lacked the ability to move the chains when needed. A few small mistakes cost us a few more points and those mistakes can be corrected.

Defense: How it looked F. How it actually was maybe a C. 520 yards against us but 68 came off an outstanding play that there isn't much you can do, was a combination of dumb luck and awareness. That is the most complex offense we will play this year and communication was poor.

Special Teams: I would say an A. 4-4 on field goals though they were short and every kickoff was high in the endzone. Good coverage on both punts and kickoffs.

Overall: I am not sure. Maybe a B-? Playing the number 14 team in the polls that got pounded last time they played but also played some really good games last year makes it hard to see where we are.

While I love playing Clemson and I think they would be a great addition to the SEC, I really wish we had an easier team to open the season to gain a little momentum. MSU is next week and I think that they will be easier to defend than Clemson but a tougher defense. I think the combination of the two games will tell us exactly where we are for the year.

passing offense: A
converted 3rd and long at will. made All-American CB look like a chump. Bray, CP, Hunter, and pass blocking by OL is legit.
Bray has progressed. he didn't make any bone head decision and didnt try to force anything. 0 INT against one of the most experienced secondary in the nation.

everything else : B-
definately improved from last year. full 85 scholarships and 19 returning starters (#1 in the SEC, #2 in NCAA)
OL had 105 combined starts (#1 in the SEC)

An F. Football is only pass or fail.
Having said that, the outcome was not surprising. Saw some promise.
