A desire of Auburn was to have a medical school, this is a positive for the State and Auburn.
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, a medical school affiliated with Virginia Tech University, will open a satellite campus in the Auburn Research Park, the medical school and Auburn University announced this morning.
The medical school and Auburn will collaborate on biomedical research and health care projects, and medical school faculty will have access to Auburn facilities.

Osteopathic doctors complete four years of medical school, just as medical doctors, and have an additional 300 to 500 hours of training in "hands-on manual medicine," according to the National Institutes of Health.
The osteopathic method is a holistic approach intended to treat the patient as a whole, rather than focus on one system or body part, according NIH.

Hooray that means we'll have even more construction on/around campus!
ETA: Auburn Research Park is a perfect spot.. construction won't be too bad.

Why not just affiliate with the new Osteopathic school in Dothan?

NIH is hardly an expert on medicine. He's only like a sophomore.

Not really surprising, but good news. Auburn has been talking about doing this for years. An extra med school in the state is needed. There is already a shortage of doctors and it only going to get worse in the near future.

It's actually not Virginia Institute of Tech. It's official name is Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. So, it's an appropriate abbreviation
I grew up in VA. I know what it is. I've never heard it called that. Just sayin'.

quote:Yea I don't understand why they don't do that. Also, will Auburn show an godly amount of preference to Auburn students like they do with their Pharmacy school? And by that I mean, require classes that Alabama does not offer or change requirements on such a short notice that several Alabama students have to transfer to Auburn to even be able to get in (read: several of my friends).
Why not just affiliate with the new Osteopathic school in Dothan?

You left out the part where the only people who go to osteopathic schools are people who can't get into the over 100 medical schools in the country. Honest question. Would you want one performing life threatening surgery on you or would you want an MD? A school as good as Auburn should not associate with a second rate program like this.

I'm pretty sure Auburn just won a bid recently for a pharmaceutical plant or something. suppose to create like 500 very well paying jobs or something
wonder if that has anything to do with this?

UGA's Med School should be opening relatively soon. Got the signs up at the old Naval Supply School in North Athens
