With Lattimore coming off an ACL injury I cannot help but think about the parallels between he and Jamal Lewis. Both were elite physical running backs out of HS who were all-american types as true freshmen. Both tore their ACLs during their sophomore seasons.

When Lewis returned from injury as a junior, he was very, very cautious as a runner and it was obvious that he was saving and protecting his knees for the draft in April.

With Lattimore coming off the same inury and being 6 months away from millions, how concerned are you that he will be a shell of his freshman self?

Legitimate concern, IMO. I think he'll be fine but if I were a Gamecock, I'd be a little anxious about watching him run this year.

I would be very surprised if his production is not down. Just human nature imo, especially with the type of RB he is.

I would be surprised if he got as many carries as he used to take per game... At least early on.

as many carries as he averaged it has to go down. It would be irresponsible for USCe to put that kind of load on a guy with a reconstructed knee.

Spurrier is not worried (from the Yahoo article linked at the bottom of the screen):

Lattimore has run strongly in fall camp, looking like the player who routinely broke tackles and cut to the right holes for big yards. He and Spurrier understand, though, that people will keep wondering about the knee until he handles those first few hits against the Commodores.

Spurrier has seen little evidence Lattimore, a projected first-round NFL draft pick, is hesitating or protecting the knee when he runs.

Spurrier recalled watching practice video this summer and seeing three defenders waiting to wrap up Lattimore.

''He just lowered the pads and powered right through them,'' Spurrier said.

Do you think he'll lower his CPG?

Yeah Lattimore is a workhouse and every time the number of carries Lattimore receives, and how much he may receive after this injury, is called into question there is always a report titled Lattimore: "I want the ball"

Will he get less carries? Maybe, but we have solid depth behind him plus Shaw likes to tote the rock himself.

Getting paid SHOULD be his priority.

Does SC have a good backup who can tote the rock? And what was his average carries per game before he was hurt last year?

No way he gets above 20 a game this year unless SS just doesn't give a frick.

No, USC has several good backs behind Lattimore. Kenny Miles (RS Senior who was the starter the year before Lattimore arrived) and Brandon Wilds (Sophomore) have multiple 100 yard games already. Mike Davis is a highly touted Freshman who is getting praised as too good to RS (even though ,with the depth, he should be). Then there's Shon Carson (RS Freshman) who was second behind Lattimore on the depth chart at the start of last year before going down with his own injury.

As far as Lattimore's caries for this year, there is only one person who is going to be able to answer that question, and that's the man himself. We'll know rather early on next Thursday night whether the Lattimore we have is the same back he was. His playing style doesn't shy away from contact, so you will know just by watching.

I, personally, don't think that the NFL money is as much of a draw for Marcus as the competition. His drive and strength of character are something rare in this world. That's why it would not surprise me in the least, even if he comes back 110% of the back he was and puts up insane numbers, that #21 could return for his senior season if he feels that there is more that he could learn in the college ranks.

Lattimore only averaged 23 carries a game last year. The spurrier is running him into the ground argument is stupid. Richardson averaged 22 carries per game.

Yes, he will get fewer carries overall. We have some experienced backs behind him and a talented freshman in Mike Davis coming in as well. Obviously he is one of a kind, but his backup had several 100+ yard games last season after he went down.

However, if he is grinding like he does against UGA, I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 or 2 30+ carry games.

Spurrier is gonna run him into the ground...again. Didnt Latt tear the ACL in a blowout last year? Not smart.

Was thinking about it much when he was running 40 times a game with a few receptions also added.

Ignorant post hogs. Lattimore averaged 1 more carry per game then Trent Richardson. He got hurt in the msu game which was a 2 point game.

You say this as if it was a good thing. Trent Richardson also got run into the ground, he just happened to not get injured. That doesn't mean he didn't risk it.

My bad, I remembered it differently. Could have been someone else I was thinking of.

I think it was said to show that Bama fans shouldn't talk about running ML into the ground when he averaged just an extra carry a game, they sound hypocritical. Kinda like Arky fans. DMAC averaged 25 carries a game his last year.
