Will the loss of their OC affect Bama's offensive output this season?

Or was he always just a cardboard cutout standing in the coaches booth? Their new guy doesn't seem to be much of an OC. Only one year's experience calling plays anywhere.

He'll just run Saban's system like the last guy did. He'll do just fine. A pro-style offense with one back and high percentage passes and heavy dose of running the ball. If he can't turn this offense into one of the nations best then something is wrong.

I've never been that impressed with their play calling. Whether that's on the OC or Saban, I don't know.

Probably a little.

Flame away, but McElwain was the best OC in the league last year.

It's a worry, but not a big one. The system will be very similar, but a change at coordinator should also raise some concerns. He's been an o-coordinator for a few years, although relatively inexperienced as a game-day play caller.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion. Most people are pretty high on his ability.

The only team they wont run at will against is us. They'll battle us again for the top rushing team in the league.

It's not built to be impressive - it's built to be effective. It gets the job done, wouldn't you agree?

I have my concerns, no way to really judge until I see him in action. McElwain was great, going to be difficult to replace.

The new OC is licking his freakin chops. He's never, ever had the talent or experienced Oline like he has right now. I heard that the guy is in awe with the entire "Process" at Bama.

IMO, he can run the same stuff McElwain ran as long as he finds a way to produce more TD's when we drive down the field and get inside the 20. I hate bogging down and having to settle for so many FG's.

Alabama has had basically the same offensive philosophy for the last 50 years. IMO the 1/9 BCSNCG we actually seen a more McElwain biased offensive scheme.

I tend to agree. No way to know yet, but I have a lot of respect for Jim McElwain. I think he was a bigger part of two NC's than given credit for.

Yea ,really hard to call plays at Bama.

Dive....
sweep....
screen....
slant....
repeat.

By the time we see Bama, it will not be a concern. Plus, with that Oline and an experienced qb, they can overcome some inconsistent playcalling. He will be fine.

Coach McE was an integral part of 2 NC teams

While at times his play calling seemed frustrating the end result can't be denied.

It will be interesting to see how Nussmeier implements "his offense". Mc used quite a bit of motion in his offense but Nuss has said that there will be even more motion used this year. Also will be interesting to see how he uses the TE, H-back position. Obviously the TE and HB positions are the ones where the motion increase could have the most impact.

To think there will be no effect from changing OC is naive but I don't think it will be a drastic change.

It isn't like we are going from Mike Leach to Paul Johnson in terms of the type offense being run.

I'm a little concerned about that, losing the continuity and the numbers put up under McElwain....a little less than I'm concerned about the rebuilt defense though.

True. Bama is absolutely loaded on offense this year. LSU is probably the only defense we will face that can slow or stop our running game.
