Bart Wright from the Greenville News called out Dabo Swinney's leadership and maturity dealing w/ Sammy Watkins... but what had to be the most cutting to Dabo was the last sentence..

"That’s a little disappointing for a coach who grew up idolizing “Bear” Bryant, came through the Alabama football program, and should have an idea about what real leadership looks like."

Leadership Missing with Dabo

The comments from Clemson fans are just retarded.. They act like they know the punishment but deep down they are praying for him to play against AU

Stupid article.

So he is saying Coach Bryant would have never handled this in a similar way...

i realize that I'm biased, but Dabo has yet to prove anything as a coach. he established himself as a recruiter, but you guys know from Donnan that great recruiting only goes so far. plus he has both the highest paid OC and DC in the country, which shows that he doesn't bring anything to the X's and O's of the game on either side of the ball.

but the crux of the article is Dabo is trying to push off this decision because he wants to find a way to let Sammy play against Auburn (and Sammy will play against Auburn) at the expense of his leadership character. The Bear, or most any coach today, would not have taken this long to issue a decision on a player arrested for possessing marijuana and a controled substance.

Disagree, Coach Bryant and Saban have both done this.

Many coaches handle this the same exact way. Nothing to see here.

The HC doesn't owe a damn thing to this journalist in terms of announcement of punishment or team rules. Dude sounds whiny.

This.

I'm tired of columnists feigning this moral outrage over the decisions made by coaches.

The vile things Vince Dooley did behind closed doors make Paul Bryant look like the pope.

You are bias. He won a conference title. You can say it is the ACC and not the SEC however the goal is win your conference each year. He did it and had a great year last year. The bowl game was horrid but he took Clemsux (as most USC fans call them) to a BCS bowl. Pretty good.

i knew a few here would get pissed at me defaming "the bear"...he was great..but was also human(sorry Gumps, i know this is new and hard for you to hear)...

I agree with the above and think this writer should have his teeth kicked in for being a douche...Dabo is bringing Clemson back to some sort of relevance...he is likely a USCe homer( i don't know this for sure, just my gut feeling)

as for the stuff about the bear...google it..you guys will see that he made mistakes too...he was an a-hole to many people and a drunk..

it is what it is...CMR is a biblethumper and needs to get better discipline himself...

my .02...take it fwiw

Dabo did more in one year (2011) than Bowden did on ten - he won the conference, and took them to a BCS bowl game (where his team shite the bed), but Bowden never did that much.

I don't care for Dabo personally, and hope he never comes back to Bama, but he's not a bad HC. He's still young, and somewhat inexperienced in the job, but he's been more successful thusfar than Bowden.

Agreed. I think it only resurfaces as an issue if he sits Sammy after the auburn game. If he just says "sammy has completed the discipline we laid out for him and barring a slip up he is scheduled to play every game this season" then i can't see how its even noteworthy.

My thoughts exactly.

The public doesn't know jackshit about what type of punishment each individual coach hands out to his players. Watkins troubles happened +/- 2 months ago. Maybe he was required to do community service, run til he puked everyday, and attend rehab/anti-drug classes?

IMO, he will not miss a beat and will play in all games unless he screws up again.

Didn't Bryant bench Namath for their bowl game Namath's senior year?
