How prevalent is offensive holding called in the SEC? The reluctance of Big 12 refs to call offensive holding has been one of several reasons cited for the explosion of passing offenses in that conference.

I'm not even sure statistically if that is true, but it sure did seem like that was a rare penalty in the Big 12. I think A&M may have had something like 2 offensive holding calls in the 2011 season. Do you notice if SEC refs call this penalty more often than other leagues?

I'm not sure of the exact statistic, but I believe Alabama has been called for less than 10 offensive holding penalties in the last 327 years.

I think Bama went 12 straight games without a holding call.

But they have really, really, really good coaching.

Bama pays the SEC to pay the refs to never call them for holding.

I think it is called more in the SEC. In general the SEC games are called tighter than BIG12.

My research shows 9 penalties in 341 years. You were close.

Depends who you are. If you are an incoming team, it will be very prevalently called on your O-line and never called on your opponent. They will just say its y'all "adjusting to the new league" when really you will be getting punished by the Hoover Country Club. Think 20 year pledgeship and you'll start to have an idea of what you're in for

LSU would never lose to us, except the refs won't call holding on Bama.

anyone have any holding call stats? I think bama had a year or longer stretch 2-3 years back where they didnt get called at all and then in 2007 when LSU had a D line including Dorsey, Tyson Jackson etc our opponents amazingly held like 3 times all season.
