When it comes to contradictory reports, nothing tops conference expansion

Notre Dame and BYU would probably make the most sense for them if they want to go to 12 teams. I don't know how they'll be able to get Notre Dame though. They seem pretty intent on remaining independent.

They have their set teams they play every year, going to the Big 12 would lose those match ups.

They also love being in the Big east for basketball.

They love keeping their own TV money

ND isnt changing anytime soon

And if anything, I would think they would wait for a B1G invite.

Publicly: "We're happy at 10. Not looking to expand." .... (to avoid lawsuits)

Privately: "If FSU/Clemson want to come, let's get it done and get back to 12."

I have never believed them saying they wanted to stay at 10......any conference that doesnt want 12 teams is either incredibly stupid or lying

I'm sure with Arkansas' luck this offseason te Big XII is gonna call Jeff Long while he's all knocked up on Mt. Dew trying on our new black uni's and offer us a spot. He'll have to accept on the condition we play half our games in Dallas and Little Rock.

Chip is a mouthpiece for the Texas AD

He's right maybe 20% of the time. He stated adamantly that A&M would not leave for the SEC, and that A&M would not and could not fire Sherman. Just saying....

Yup.
Chip Brown is full of shite, however.

Unless a playoff system forces them into a conference.

This. ND needs conference affiliation if it wants to play for the NC. The question remain, which conference will it align with? At this point, I'd say the Big 12 has as good a shot as any considering that ND could independently negotiate its 3rd tier rights.

Its my understanding that there have already been informal talks with FSU & Clemson. Ideally, they would like ND & FSU. The Big 12 would be adding the Chicago market plus Florida. However, the reluctance of ND is not going to deter talks with Clemson.

be adding the Chicago market

Being from Chicago (originally), Notre Dame certainly does not control that market. They certainly have a presence there, but the same could be said of ND anywhere. Chicago isn't a college sports town, but the teams you see the most support for are Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, then maybe Notre Dame/Indiana/Ohio State/Iowa.

Chip Brown was universally wrong about anything dealing with CFB Conference expansion. Hard to know whether he's just incredibly incompetent, delusional or he has been directed to feed that tripe to the masses by his masters.

Having said that, if ND were to join a Conference wouldn't it make sense for them to join a Conference, like the Big 12, where they can retain their 3rd Tier Content.

Texas isn't about to give theirs up for the health of the Big 12. Everyone not named OU is just happy making $20M/year in TV revenue.

ND will keep doing what ND is doing until it affects the revenue stream. Playoffs and NC's won't matter as long as they are raking in the money. Plus, there will always be an in for them in playoffs/NC because of how "valuable" they are.
