South Carolina and Florida folks, how do you think this turns out?

Clemson to Big 12: A Parent's View

Do you think if Clemson and FSU went to the Big 12, it would be a recruiting advantage for South Carolina and UF because of the distance?

I don't think away games factor much. If distance is an issue, it's more for the 360 other days in the year.

I don't think I've seen this angle discussed yet but an excellent article and some very good points.

Do most parents attend a kid's away games?

Well, anything that hurts FSU further is fine by me.

If I were a parent it would make a difference to me. The thought of not being able to see many games would be enough for me to try to sway him or her to some place where I could see more games.

I'd love to see Clempson join a conference that allows them to get bullied around by Tejas.

There's something to it. Clemson recruits the southeast very well. They do not recruit nationally and never have. It's not like moving to the Big 12 would suddenly open up Texas for them; they would still stick to recruiting the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida.

To me, none of this expansion makes any sense. The SEC became what it is because of the compact geographical footprint with culturally southeastern schools. All but Vandy -- and to some extent Kentucky -- are large football oriented state universities. The great in-stadium atmosphere is substantially enhanced by 10-15,000 visiting fans all sitting together.

Clemson might do it -- TV money talks -- but the fanbase is not excited about the prospect. Their dream is to join the SEC; not the Big 12.

Not really. FSU has and always will recruit well. I cannot really speak on USCe's part, but Clemson has a willing coaching staff. They can recruit really well.

If this were to happen, I predict VT and UNC announced to the SEC the next day. No way UNC allows themselves to be on the outside looking in for the four super conferences.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but due to their recent expansion, doesn't the ACC have to travel many miles anyway? I mean isn't it a good distance away from the state of Florida to places like New York and Penn? Isn't the Cuse and Pitt in the ACC. Bowden not wanting to play Bama and Auburn in the same season is really coming back to bite FSU in the butt. The distance from BR to Columbia is a great distance too. I just wish that the SEC would have stayed in the southeast. The distance from Baton Rouge to Lexington was already bad enough.

UNC will never leave the ACC. They rule the ACC like Texas rules the Big 12.
