Thought the Rant might like some of these.

quote:
When talking about recruiting at South Carolina, Spurrier mentioned that he signed a player from the state of Alabama, offering a comparison to his recruiting when at Florida, said; "In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama"; But then he immediately added the punch: "Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours." (in reference to the University of Alabama recruiting violations in the early 2000s)

Just read that whole thread on Cocky Talk. He is by far my favorite coach in the SEC outside of whoever is coaching LSU. I don't care that he used to beat the shite out of LSU back in the 90's, although that 1997 victory sure was sweet.
One of my favorites was when he was at Duke and was confronted about having his team come back on the field at North Carolina and take a picture in front of the scoreboard after winning the ACC. Mack Brown didn't take to kindly of it saying Spurrier had no class. Spurrier's response, " Why? I've got a better record on that field than he does."
Another was when he was talking about Clemson. He said, " We thought we had done something good when we beat Clemson, then Kentuckey beat'em."
And finally when talking about recruiting players out of the state of Alabama. " In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama. Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were givin out over there were worth a whole lot more than ours."

SOS is a character. I find him funny as hell now. I hated his arse when he was at UF. Florida used to pound our arse, but we won a couple from him in the 90's.

Agree 100% on all 5 points. Hope CLM remembers that 'Dumb and Dumberer' remark though (LSU/UT 2010) and brings it to him 2012

I will say I took some pleasure in the beat down we gave South Carolina in Auburn three or four years ago. Something like 48-3. Only REAL arse whipping I recall Auburn ever giving any SOS team.
The SC QB had no clue. I think he was a freshman. I had no beef with South Carolina, but it was nice to put a damn beat down on Spurrier after all the whuppins he gave us in the 90's. And the SEC CG in 2010 was RICH for the same reason. Especially the Hail Mary TD at the end of the 1st half. That ended the competition that day.
(again, no beef with USCe...just Steven Orr has a history and a big ego/mouth.)

Yeah, but as has been noted Spurrier has been back to his old self of late which makes me wonder if he knows something no one else does. We'll see. He's going to have a pretty club for sure.

Actually our starter was hurt for that game, the guy we had no choice to put in I dont think ever had a college snap before that. And yes he did eventually transfer.
