Here in Austin, I am hearing heavy FSU/Clemson to Big 12 chatter, along with a Notre Dame to Big 12 end game - for non football sports soon and then football after 2014 (NBC TV contract expires).

The issues being the impending 4 team playoff format possibly excluding (or making it less lucrative for) ND/independents, ND AD ties to UTa AD, crumbling of Big East & ACC, and ND hatred of Big 10.

Assuming the 4 superconference (16 team) model is where we are headed, should the SEC go after them while we are the top dog? We are at least contiguous with the state of Indiana. This isn't about culture or fit, but again almighty TV viewers/$$, plus blocking the Big 12.

Tell me- why would ND say no to the Big Ten but yes to the Big 12?

Between Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky, we already have more than our fill out Midwestern schools.

Just so you know Notre Dame's 2012 schedule averages out to have a higher ratings than Bama or LSU next year based.

Not sure how Navy is any more of a patsy than Western Kentucy, Florida International, or North Western Carolina

I have heard that it goes all of the way back to Fielding Yost (sp?) blocking their entry into the Big 10.

Also, the CIC fully supports Stem Cell research, which Notre Dame's leadership opposes.

The PAC 12 is likely not an option, so that leaves the Big 12 and SEC as the choices. Obviously this is not a fit or cultural grab, but rather a TV market decision - like it or not.

It does. He hated Catholics. The relationship between Michigan and ND is tenuous to this day because of it.

I have been seeing some SERIOUS delusion out of the Big 12. It's getting ridiculous.

Big 12 is in a much better money position for TV negotiations than SEC right now so they may plow ahead irregardless. Our tier one contract ends in a year and we merely have a tentative agreement in hand that can be accepted or refused to allow NBC the ND right's holder to sit down at the table and offer more than ESPN.

Arkansas to the Big 12

And I'm sure they'll be challenged in their conference championship game too.

Are you comfortable with the Big 12 adding FSU and Notre Dame to join UTa and OU? It could shift the balance of TV $$ power, and, thus our conference payout per school --> significant portion of Ole Miss' athletic dept funding...

Might wanna add Tennessee to that list since it's obvious Arkansas is deeper south than Tennessee.

I mean it's not like more than half the state of Arkansas is south of Memphis.
