I'm going to look at this game from an angle that only a few posters have acknowledged.
Sure, Clemson returns basically every playmaker from last season on offense (Watkins, Boyd, Ellington, Hopkins, Bellamy, etc). Sure, Clemson basically made Auburn's defense look silly in the second half of last year's game in Death Valley (they gained 624 yards, IIRC). Sure, Clemson has all the hype going into this season.
However, let's consider the following:
1) Clemson is replacing 3 starting offensive linemen.
quote:
Offensive Weakness: Rebuilding the offensive line will clearly be the top priority for offensive coordinator Chad Morris. All-conference tackles Phillip Price and Landon Walker, as well as guard Antoine McClain, have all departed campus and have left a major void in Tajh Boyd's main line of defense.
LINK
2) Clemson is replacing their top 3 defensive linemen.
quote:
Defensive Weakness: After losing the top three, and four of the top six, the defensive line has to be considered the area of concern on this side of the ball. There are also question marks atop the defensive hierarchy, but more on that in a moment.
LINK
3) Clemson is also having to replace Dwayne Allen, who was a huge mis-match from Auburn's defense in the first game.
4) I'm not so sure it will happen, but with Sammy Watkins facing possible suspension, how huge of a loss would he be? He's obviously the best playmaker they have had since CJ Spiller, and I can't remember a Clemson having a wide-out this explosive since JaCoby Ford.
-- Considering all of the following, along with Auburn adding a true defensive mastmind in BVG and returning nearly every starter/contributer/key player, does this give Auburn the advantage? What does the SECr think on this game?

Trust me, you're not the only one. We played them in 2007, 2010, 2011, and now 2012.
I'd really enjoy us kicking their arse one, good time...

The team that didn't get 70 put on them in their bowl game...I think AU will rape Clemson even worse than we will rape NCSU the night before. (The turf will be stained with the blood of Mike Glennon
btw Welcome back, dude.

I don't follow recruiting/preseason for other clubs very closely but:
Clemson losing entire DL and 3 OL with AU returning nearly everyone coupled with this being an early game leads me to believe AU wins the battle of the trenches..... WDE!

The superstitious nut in me doesn't like all this talk of a bloodbath.

I would be tempted to go with Clemson in this game if it weren't on national television.

I'm hoping their team still hasn't recovered from that. It'd be nice to lay a beatdown on a top 10 team to open the season. It'd set us up for a nice stretch. Beat Clemson, beat State, beat ULM, give LSU a run (before losing), upset a off-season shocked Arky, beat Ole Miss, beat Vandy, beat aTm, beat NMS, toss-up with Georgia, beat Alabama A&M, and then finally give Alabama a run if we have a great season like listed above. Of course, all of that could or couldn't happen.

Offensively I think AU has an advantage early because no one will really have an idea how to scout what their new OC will have in store. But if Clemson has it figured out and the game is close by halftime, and the clemson WR is eligible, it could be high scoring. IF it becomes high scoring I like Clemsons chances

AU has a huge ? at QB.. If you all can't pass the ball at least a little, you will be in trouble.. That being said, the battle in the trenches should be interesting.. I think AU has a lot of young talent on The OL.. How they play together will be huge.. All I really know about Clemson is that they have playmakers, and if Watkins plays, he really could change the outcome himself... Should be a good game..

if Watkins plays
Dabo is a goofy retard but he isn't completely stupid. After what happened on that fateful night in South Florida, he can't afford to open this season up on the wrong end of an arse beating. Watkins will play. If he is suspended at all it might be for the first play of the game so he isn't named a starter.

They have cupcake games in weeks 2 and 3.
He might be suspended then, although that might be a bad move on Dabo's part. It would be obvious that he played Watkins against Auburn because he was desperate for a win.

It's not gonna matter because Boyd won't have enough time to get him the ball.
