Mallett was projected as a first round QB at one time.
Teams seem to shy away from QBs who are 6'6" or taller and have a knack for smoking herb.

While I agree Mallett never had a chance to start for the Patriots, he did have a chance to win the #2 QB spot last season and was relegated to the practice squad as the #3 QB because he could not beat out Brian Hoyer. Mallett I think had 2 big things working against him though going into the draft causing his "collapse" to the 3rd round - first off despite being the most physical specimen talent in the draft in terms of size and arm strength he was known for throwing untimely INTs and second off, like Tyler Wilson may get as well, the "System" Petrino QB tag as we all have found out through the past Petrino DOES get his QBs to play above their heads...then they turned into NFL nobodies (Chris Redman, Stefon Lefors and Brian Brohm).
