B1G Playoff Plan is "Fading Fast"

Lots of info in the link:

* Mike Slive and Jim Delany sit at opposite ends of the BCS negotiating table (more than symbolic)

* The B1G plan to have on-campus playoff games is on life support due to winter weather concerns in January and/or seating/hotel concerns at certain schools (TCU, Boise, Oregon, etc.)

* The B1G/PAC plan to carve out an exception for the Rose Bowl is probably dead. Deloss Dodds ( ) is being used as a mouthpiece to tell the B1G and Pac that if they want to save the Rose Bowl, they can do it outside of the BCS Playoff system. And that in a few years of not competing for a national championship, they'll be begging to scrap the Rose Bowl and come back.

I actually like the idea of home playoff games, cold weather or not.

Slive is the ultimate pimp slapper.

Pimp slappin' the B1G/PAC now.

Pimp slapped Bama/UF/UGA/LSU/pretty much every SEC team but Auburn about Cam in 2010.

I do too. The article has to be leaving out the BY FAR the biggest reason Slive is against the B1G plan and that is conference winners only. Of course, the writer of this article throws out the straw hat argument claiming that "cold weather" is the primary reason the SEC is opposed to the plan. The take a shot at Florida by citing a lone road loss at Syracuse when Syracuse was still a good team where weather isn't a factor and use this for the entire basis of the SEC's opposition to the plan.

thats because without a conference champion tie in, the SEC could have conceivably gotten 2 teams in four of the last five years. (I believe Georgia was ranked number 4 in 07, but i could be wrong)

Slive's pimp hand is strong!

On the cold weather issue, I am OK with northern sites, but the media folks will piss and moan, and nobody wants bad press from an event. I also think the northern alumni like a getaway to a warm climate, so that may drive it as much as anything.

I actually think it should be. I am sure there are a few fan bases who disagree, but I thought it was stupid in 2003 when OU got in. I dont think if you cant win your own conference you should have a shot at winning it all

Some of the biggest assholes I have ever met are Big Ten alumni/fans. God it would be wonderful if there was a playoff and the Big Ten wasn't a part of it.

Works for the NFL see the NFC West.

Also lets stay you put a team from say the Big East in... They would still have to beat good teams to advance so I think they would either prove their worth or get bounced quickly.

with only four teams in this logic doesnt hold up.

It's going to be tough on fans if the first round is not played at a home stadium. First round game in Arizona than the final in Pasadena, Miami or NO will be tough to swing for 99% of your fan base.

Well IMO it should be more like an 8 to 16 team playoff and tell all the other bowls to frick off they don't matter. However you still can do it based on rankings which we all know can be adjusted to count for Conf Winners

What is lost on all this playoff and conference expansion talk is that college football is better than the NFL because of the in-stadium atmosphere. Yet even the NFL has playoff games at the higher ranked team's home stadium. For that matter, so does D1AA.

I went to a Falcons/Panthers game last year. Lawd was it dull. There were a good many Panthers fans (jerseys!), but they were spread throughout the Georgia dome. It's totally different from the 10-15,000 visiting fans all sitting together and cheering together.
