I'm in Columbia this week for work until Thursday night.

Anything I should go check out and where should I go eat?

Per arky posters you should go check the local meth labs. I hear they have some great springtime blends

Stephens College roots are desperate to buy you a drink. Open with the liner "and where do you attend school?". If SC is the answer, proceed to step 2 which is "I have a wienie." Step 3 will evolve on it's own.

Keep your hotel door locked and push the couch in front of it just in case.

eat at the flatbranch, addison's, bambino's, bangkok gardens, murry's, osaka, shakespeares pizza, sophia's, sycamore...

check out the bluenote if you are young enough to enjoy live music with a college type crowd - they get some pretty good groups stopping in Columbia between STL and KC

LINK

there is also mojo's and some other random venues with music scattered around.

The food and beer at Broadway are superior to Flatbranch in my opinion but both are good options. I would also add Heidelberg to the list of bars. If it's a nice day you can sit outside on the second floor and have a good view of some of the more attractive buildings on campus. The best BBQ in the area is at Lonnie Rays in Harrisburg (about 15 miles away). The Blue Fugue is also decent for live music. It used to be located in New Orleans but moved to Columbia after Katrina.

Have dinner one night at Murry's and try the fried green pepper rings - they are fantastic. IF you're still here Thursday night, check out the North Mississippi Allstars at The Blue Note - great band. Downtown is great to check out. Have fun!

Addison's is pretty good for a nice lunch. I'd say make sure you get to Flatbranch, they have great pizza amongst other things. They brew their own beer if you're into that. And of course the classics like Shakespeare's, Booches, etc.

You can't talk about what to do in Columbia without first knowing Columbia's history.

Let me give you an education on Columbia's Civil War history...

3, 2, 1...

I can't be the only one annoyed with MU posters who feel like the way to integrate with the rest of the SEC is to ramble on and on about the civil war

Most of us have never been to a Civil War re-enactment

Most of us haven't either. I grew up in southeast Missouri, which is very culturally southern, but have heard and learned more about the Civil War since I moved to Columbia than I ever learned in school.

To the OP - if you're into running, you might check out the Katy Trail that runs through Columbia. It's great for running, walking, biking, etc. Columbia is big into the outdoor activities. It is supposed to be rainy/stormy most of the week though.

Both the baseball and softball team are playing on Wednesday, assuming they don't get rained out. Baseball team is decent this year, softball team is very, very good.

I agree with ya. However, I think it's all about the SEC Rant's learning curve. If you post on here without having first spent time observing how people react to each other on the rant, you're almost baited into posting something about the Civil War just because so many people are telling you that your favorite team doesn't culturally fit and will never amount to shite in the SEC.

You're almost compelled to give them an education because you don't realize that they're just busting your balls to get you to post something stupid like that.

I understand how new posters get baited into posting stupid stuff.

The whole "cultural fit" argument makes me . I love football and enjoy drinking heavily at tailgates and cheering on my team...my god I hope I don't get hazed too hard by the "actives"

Either way and can't wait to start competing in the best conference in the land

Edit: if you're looking to do something tomorrow night I'd suggest willies(they have 1 bottles all night and cheap pool) or quintons ($2 32 oz beers and nice patio
