Yeah, we had some of the worst winter weather I've ever been through last year. Just another cycle.

Edit, here's an updated one. Derped when I shoulda herped.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING BETWEEN 3 PM AND 9 PM ALONG AND NORTH OF A HAMILTON...TO ODENVILLE...AND HEFLIN LINE IN RESPONSE TO AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE. THE MAIN THREATS WILL BE DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS AND LARGE HAIL.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA ALONG AND AHEAD OF AN ADVANCING COLD FRONT THURSDAY NIGHT INTO THE PRE DAWN HOURS FRIDAY. AS THESE THUNDERSTORMS MOVE THROUGH THREATS WILL INCLUDE DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS ALONG WITH ISOLATED TORNADOES...HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES AND LARGE HAIL.

STAY TUNED FOR LATER UPDATES FOR ANY CHANGES IN TIMING...STRENGTH...AND THREAT AREAS.

Due to work I pretty much hawk NWS, NAWAS, etc. and can try to post regular weather updates if you like if a thread becomes active. But then again, if most of you are on the internet anyway I suppose it wouldn't be needed. One thing I love about my job is how things light up when rough weather comes about. I just hate the consequences. Last year was rough there for a while when Tuscaloosa's happened...God, some of the things you wish you didn't have to hear on radios.

I'll probably get poked at for this, but here's my expert take on Severe Weather season this year. You'll find most other pro mets agree.

There has been very little capping along the gulf coast this year, and when you don't have capping you have very 'rogue' dynamics in the atmosphere that are a breeding ground for Severe Weather.

I fully expect the 2012 Tornado season to be well above average.

For your educational purposes, here is the definition of a cap or capping inversion....

a layer of relatively warm air aloft, usually several thousand feet above the ground, which suppresses or delays the development of thunderstorms. Air parcels rising into this layer become cooler than the surrounding air, which inhibits their ability to rise further and produce thunderstorms. As such, the cap often prevents or delays thunderstorm development even in the presence of extreme instability. However, if the cap is removed or weakened, then explosive thunderstorm development can occur.

Been awesome here in Georgia. Nice, mild temperatures for the most part & good amount of rain to fill up Lanier for the summer. I wish every winter could be like this one.

human induced global warming is a crock of shite; the earth actually does cycle through warm/cold periods.
