Against common opponents...

LSU. Bama

Miss St. 19-6. 24-7
Fla. 41-11. 38-10
Tn. 38-7. 37-6
Au. 45-10. 42-14
OMiss. 52-3. 52-7
Ark. 41-17 38-14

Total. 236-54. 231-58

The LSU defense gave up 4 points less than Bama's and the LSU offense scored 5 points more than Bama's. Okay, so Bama's stats against Kent State are better than LSU's stats against Oregon - congratulations!

Surely there are a lot of buts and ifs about teams missing their quality players or garbage time points, but that washes out over six games.

LSU being nine points better is insignificant, and I'm not trying to make the point that LSU' s four point advantage on defense means LSU has the better defense. This just shows that the two defenses are fairly equal, the two offenses are fairly equal, and any perceived statistical advantage for Bama is solely due to a weaker schedule.

Both are great. It is a waste of time to determine who is better.

It's like lining up VS super models and arguing who is the best one.

LSU has more mouth breathing talent, while Bama has smarter players.

Advantage- Bama

Great post penrod. I was thinking the same thing. LSU played WVU and Oregon who have good offenses while Bama played PSU. Hurts the stats some playing good offenses.

I have the sense that Oregon would have clobbered Alabama around the edges.

It is amazing how no one thought Oregon was this good when they actually played in the BCS NC game.

Huh? They were damn good on offense. I thought that game against Auburn would be 38-31 or something like it.

That's silly.

I think most LSU fans recognized that Alabama was the second best team. The justice in them playing in the BCSNCG is a separate question.

eta: LSU's opponent should have been Oklahoma State. Alabama's inclusion, IMO, violates the spirit of the BCS which holds that every regular season game is important. As it stands, it's as if the Nov. 5 game never happened.

Brockers said the only thing more difficult than going up against Alabama’s offensive line is trying to tackle Trent Richardson.

“After the (first) game, my neck was hurting, shoulders, everything,” Brockers said. “It’s like hitting a brick wall constantly. He gets the ball a lot, so you have to hit him a lot. You can’t know how solid he really is.

“We’ve got to get all 11 hats to the ball. You can’t take that dude down with one guy.”

Richardson rushed for 89 hard-earned yards on 23 carries in the first game against LSU and also caught five passes for 80 yards, but the Crimson Tide were stymied any time they moved inside the 30.

This time, Richardson said Alabama needs to “step on the throat."

This time Richardson needs to help get more than 6 first downs in the 2nd half.

Thing is if they did LSU would just trot out another big time player. I'll say the same thing about this game I did on the first. Alabama may win but it won't be because they wore LSU out. LSU is too deep for Bama to do that. The fact that Bama quit at the end of the 4th qtr and OT proved that.

LSU has slightly better defensive talent and depth. LSU has MUCH better defensive coaching.

Cite all the stats vs common opponents, season totals or whatever you'd like. Still doesn't change the fact two evenly matched teams are going head to head Monday night. It's why the first game was 9 - 6.
