Just looking ahead but would like to get a feel for whether there's a piece of turf on which to pitch a purple tent and share a little cajun gumbo with some of you military folks. Is tailgating even permitted on campus? I know that a lot of the schools have outlawed the 'sport.' Thanks in advance...

There are designated tailgate spots all around the stadium and campus. Its not like a place like UF where it seems you can just set up where ever you like. There is a park right next to the stadium where a lot of folks set up and then they allow tailgating in most of the parking lots. The tailgating has gotten a lot better over the last few years, it used to be pretty subdued but if you are making gumbo you can be sure that folks would be more than willing to give you some BBQ

I posted this in another thread in my "What to Do in CS" write up.

Tailgating/Gameday:

Our crew usually arrives around 7 am (lots open at 630 am) and we tailgate in Lot 100 on the Southeast side of Reed Arena. I've attached the parking map. I suggest Reed Arena or Spence Park. You won't be able to park at Reed, but across the street is the WCG (West Campus Parking Garage). You can drop your stuff off on the curb at Reed and set up in the grass with everyone else, but you'll have to park in the garage. It is $15. Don't park in the green cash lots way out on West Campus. Its a long walk or shuttle and its for the few folks who come in and out.

Reed Arena and West Campus - Largest concentration of tailgaters. West Campus. Party Buses, RVs, larger tailgate spreads, bands, etc. Home to most of the RV Lots (Lot 100, Penberthy, Olsen RV lot, Lot 88, Lot 74 are the RV lots on West Campus). Lot 50 is another RV Lot on Main Campus. Northgate is on University Drive across from campus lots 30a, 30c and Northgate Parking Garage... It spans about 4 blocks.

Spence Park - Large concentration of tailgaters on the East side of Kyle Field. Lots of fun, mostly a younger crowd. Cannot park here, must drop stuff off and park in garages or across the street.

Duncan Field - Where most alumni club tailgates of visiting fans are... also the same place that the Fraternities and Sororities tailgate.

Parking Map: Football Parking

RV Parking Map: RV Parking

Duncan Field is in pink at the bottom. My tailgating lot is 100g (Lot E) by Reed. Feel free to come by. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you my contact info.

Basically Spence Park, Duncan Field = Quad At Bama or Grove at Ole Miss

Reed Arena/West Campus Tailgating is similar to the Parade Grounds at LSU or North Campus at UGA

There are some pay lots out by the George Bush library but you are way the frick out there and its a hike to the stadium... think tailgating at Chimes.

If you want a decent spot on West Campus or Spence Park, I suggest setting up your tailgate in a grassy area on Friday at Noon. That's when they blow an air horn and everyone claims their spot.

I would think Spence would have more space not taken by regulars but the trick is not having parking immediately nearby.

Thanks Ags,

Great guidance, and I appreciate it. Look for my purple tents n' flagpole w/LSU flag. Drop by if you're up for some gumbo or jambalaya; not exactly sure about the menu. A lot depends on the weather, etc. Rest assured, we're coming, and hell's coming with us.

If Ball Gravy tells you about a "beer tree", don't believe him. It does not exist.

Oh the beer tree is real. There's even a sign on it that says "beer tree" so you know it's legit

If you see the tree Ball Gravy is near. Just shout "I'm looking for Ball Gravy"

Don't listen to Big Kat, wmr. You'll have to yell "I'm looking for real Ball Gravy"

Ags,

Don't tell the Bammers about the 'beer tree.' They'll be looking to poison it.

just make sure you bring some sort of shade. you may get lucky and get a spot with some trees for cover but there are large chunks of area that have nothing to keep you cool.

If you want to rub elbows and meet people, Spence Park is your place.

If you need a little more room for a trailer, parking, throwing washers, keg stands, falling down when drunk, etc. then look at West Campus / Reed Arena, and bring a tent.

Also, no generators (except marine battery) are allowed in Spence but they are everywhere else

I am just thankful it is later in the season instead of freaking AUGUST. Can't wait.
