Cant believe these are violations...but, as a HS coach myself, CMR is definitely a man I would want to work for....

quote:

Richt decided to pay Cantor (recruiting asst)money out of his own pocket after determining that Cantor was underpaid for his position compared to comparable programs against whom Georgia competed. Richt asked for a $10,000 raise. However, the University was in the midst of a campus-wide pay freeze and was experiencing furloughs, so Evans declined. Richt subsequently paid Cantor $834 a month over 13 months via personal check.

Richt did the same thing in the summer of 2009. Richt asked the administration for a raise for linebackers coach John Jancek after he was offered the coordinator’s position in the summer of 2009. Richt’s request was declined, so he wrote Jancek a personal check for $10,000 on June 30, 2009.

Eason(former receivers coach) received a $6,150 pay cut when Richt moved him off the coaching staff into an administrative role. Richt wrote a personal check for that amount to Eason in July of 2010.

there were some others in there that were legit violations, but these were the main part of the story and just seems crazy they are violations....its not like these guys are student athletes

Forgive me if it's explained in the link as I did not click, but why would a coaches payment have to come from the school? Especially when most coaches often receive other pay from booster organizations and endorsements.

Payments come from the athletics dept., not the school. They are two separate entities. Former AD, but current horn dawg, Damon Evans refused several pay requests that Richt thought justified for his coaching and support staff.

Since Richt isn't earning the money he makes, he might as well give it away.

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham had impermissible contact with an unidentified recruit in May of 2010. After signing in at the front office of a high school, Grantham walked down a hall looking for the school’s football coach. Unable to locate the coach’s office, Grantham was approached by a young man who asked if he could help him find his way. As it turned out, that individual was the prospect Grantham was there to recruit. Their “small talk” on the way to the coach’s office exceeded the NCAA’s limits for “greetings” during a non-contact period and Georgia was found to be in violation of NCAA bylaws 13.02.4 and 13.1.1.1 regarding contact. As a result, Grantham was withheld from off-campus recruiting activities from Nov. 27-Dec. 3, the number of evaluation days for the football staff for spring of 2012 was reduced from 168 to 158 and Grantham was ordered to attend a two-day rules seminar next summer

Georgia provided two free meals to Tyriq Gurley, the 5-year-old little brother of 2012 running back prospect Todd Gurley. Meals were permitted for Gurley and his parents but not for siblings on the official visit

frick the NCAA. Seriously. It is allowed for your family to ask for hundreds of thousands of dollars and it's cool as long as you "didn't know about it", but asking a kid for directions or feeding a 5 year old is a rules violation. It would be almost comical if it wasn't so damn frustrating. The NCAA is a frickin joke and needs to just die.

Do you really think thats all they talked about and the kid that comes up to him, just so happens to be the recruit.

That one is bullshite, they can feed his parents but not his younger bro who came on the trip as well.

But I agree, all the new NCAA violations are getting pretty bad.

This violation makes me laugh

So you actually believe that all he did was ask him for directions and all the kid did was tell him where to go? And he was just randomly lost in the hall and in a school of hundreds if not more than a thousand students, the one kid he was recruiting at that school appears.

Of course not, but that should be irrelevant. Even if they talked about football and his future at UGA or whatever, talking on the walk from the main office to the coach's office shouldn't matter. WGAS if they talked for 2 extra minutes, its' not like that 120 seconds is gonna make the difference in going to UGA or somewhere else.

so out of a thousand kids in that high school, your boy todd happens upon the only D1A recruit in the building?.... how many kids did he pass before he found the one he was looking for?

Not to get picky but how do you know he was the only 1A recruit at the school? But anyways...if Grantham was looking for the coach's office, he was almost assuredly told in the main office how to get there. So if he was lost, there's a VERY high probability that he was at least near his destination. So no, it's not a stretch to suggest that a football player was close to his coach's office.

But that's not the point, the point is that he/UGA got 3 or 4 different penalties for an extra minute or 2 of talking to someone at the school. If they "accidentally" bumped into each other at the Burger King, ok I understand that. But he was at the school, on the way to the office. Big frickin deal.
