the 1973 Notre Dame championship is one of the tide's OFFICIAL national championships... voted national champion prior to their bowl loss. For the bama fans that might claim, 'we didn't really lose,' bama lost again to the irish in 1974 - 13 - 11.
Clements was the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame football team from 1972 to 1974 and led the team to a national championship in 1973. In the Dec 31, 1973 Sugar Bowl matchup against Alabama, Clements had a 3rd-and-9 Hail Mary completion from his own end zone with 2:00 left to secure a 24-23 victory. In 1974, Clements finished fourth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy and was voted a first-team All-American

The UPI poll always closed after the regular season. It was the AP that closed after the bowls. Either one meant a NC.

I was at the game. It was a LONG time ago and I was MUCH younger, so of course, how much a ticket cost never entered my mind. 
I need to ask my dad how did we end up with tickets and if he remembers how much he paid for the tickets. I am not sure about his answer to the first question, but I bet his answer to the second question will be...I paid too much
